What to know on B1G recruiting for USC fans

As USC prepares for one final season in the PAC-12 before heading over to the B1G (Big Ten) conference, WeAreSC thought it would be beneficial to get our readers caught up on what is going on on the recruiting trail among the members of the conference.

Throughout the season, I will be doing a weekly/biweekly update on storylines, names to know, trends, visits, and more in the conference. For this first look, I have a couple quotes from writers at On3 covering these schools to give their own insight. For the others, I will show their ranking and their top commits.

There will be much deeper looks into these classes in the future throughout the season but this first look will get you familiar with the rankings and some key names.

On3 Letterman Row’s lead recruiting insider Matt Parker gave us some names to know with Ohio State.

“The Buckeyes have had a bittersweet summer on the trail I’d say. They’ve landed key targets Bryce West, Aaron Scott Jr. and even a bit of a stunner with five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott. Defensive end continues to be a priority and the direction is a little unclear heading into the fall. Safety is also a position of need and after Ohio State missed out on KJ Bolden, the program is in the midst of a board reevaluation. Offensively, the class is two to pieces being completely finished.”

On3 Hawkeye Report’s Blair Sanderson gave his insight on Iowa recruiting.

“With 20 commitments on the board, Iowa is just about done recruiting in the Class of 2024 but still have a couple remaining needs left to fill. Those are primarily at defensive back, wide receiver, and punter. The Hawkeyes are scheduled to bring in top defensive back target Casey Etienne Jr. for a visit in September. That is also when their top remaining target at wide receiver, Jayquan Reid, will be making the trip up from South Florida as well, so those might be the two biggest names to watch in this fall. Then, at punter, watch for Iowa to go the Australian route again to replace outgoing senior Tory Taylor. Otherwise, the focus will be on the Class of 2025 this fall as well as the transfer portal come later this year.”

On3 SpartanMag’s Jason Killop gave his insight on Michigan State recruiting.

“Michigan State’s still trying to figure out how they’re gonna structure their classes under Mel Tucker a little bit. Because like last year they signed, 17 kids this year, they’re at 12 and doesn’t seem like they’re gonna add a ton more. He’s kind of supplementing his classes through the transfer portal and using up scholarships that way and having smaller recruiting classes. So Michigan State’s probably not gonna get up to 25, 20, maybe even barely 20 kids in the next couple classes.”

“They’re kind of running out of spots in their class. For your guys’ readers, they might know [running back] Jason Brown of Seattle O’Day. I’d say he’s one of the bigger headlines that Michigan State has still left on the board right now.”
