What to expect from the Florida Gators in the SEC Tournament?
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After a final series win over the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs, the Florida Gators are set for a single elimination game in the SEC Tournament. Florida is one of five SEC teams that finished the regular season with a 13-17 league record. The Gators have already made a strong case with the No. 24 RPI and No. 1 strength of schedule to make the NCAA Tournament but, as they say in fighting, never leave it to the judge’s scorecards.
Tuesday the Gators will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in a win-or-go-home game. Both the Gators and Commodores have 13 wins and both will throw their Friday night starters — LHP Pierce Coppola (0-3, 9.28 ERA)and RHP Bryce Cunningham (6-4, 4.54).
Florida is the only team to reach the SEC Tournament Semifinals in each of the last three seasons featuring a trip to the finals two years ago. During that span, the Gators own a 9-4 record in Hoover. Overall, Florida is 77-69 (.527) all-time in Hoover, making the team’s 43rd SEC Tournament appearance in 2024.
The Gators could lose on Tuesday and still make the NCAA Tournament but a win over Vanderbilt would continue to help building Florida’s résumé before the NCAA selection committee picks the field of 64.
