What They’re Saying: Andrew Vorhees to Baltimore

As the picks ticked away through the sixth round and the early part of the seventh, it looked more and more like the ACL injury Andrew Vorhees suffered at the NFL combine would cost him the opportunity to become a 2023 draft pick. But a team without a pick in the seventh round stopped the slide and gave Vorhees the thrill of hearing his name called and also a very exciting landing spot. After looking like they were done for the day, the Baltimore Ravens completed a trade with the Cleveland Browns to get back into this draft with the No. 12 pick in the seventh round and No. 229 overall selection.

And that’s where Vorhees will begin his NFL career. He joins a class that also includes Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers, Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson, Ole Miss linebacker Tavius Robinson, Stanford cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly and Oregon offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu.

The Ravens sent a sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft to Cleveland for the pick they used on Vorhees. He’s being called one of the best value picks in the draft.

Ravens on Vorhees

Baltimore Executive VP and GM Eric DeCosta spoke highly of Vorhees.

“Andrew is a player who we’ve admired,” DeCosta said in a statement. “And the opportunity to trade back in to get him was too appealing. We are getting a tough and physical competitor who is polished and experienced. We have every expectation that he will be playing winning football for us in 2024. And this is a move that really solidified our line for the coming years.”

Grades for the Ravens and Vorhees

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. gave the Ravens a B+ for their 2023 draft. In the review, he said: “I like the stash pick of guard Andrew Vorhees (229), who likely will sit out all of 2023 after a recent knee injury. He would have been a second- or third-rounder without the injury.”

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter gave the Ravens an A for their Day 3 grade as well as the overall grade. Of Vorhees, he said, “He could end up being a tremendous Round 7 value after he returns.”
