What the Next Week Looks Like for Kentucky Basketball Recruiting

What the Next Week Looks Like for Kentucky Basketball Recruiting

Kentucky basketball almost has its 2024-25 roster in place with only two scholarship spots remaining. That hasn’t slowed things down for Mark Pope and his new staff.

The next week is expected to be just as busy for Kentucky basketball. Things are coming to a head with the final roster additions on the horizon.

KSR+ is taking a look at what the next week looks like for Kentucky basketball. As the staff evaluates the current NCAA live period, several campus visits are coming up.

Saturday and Sunday (May 18-19): Live Period Basketball

Since Friday, Mark Pope and his staff have been scouting talent across the country during the NCAA live period. Pope and assistant Jason Hart are in Indianapolis for the Nike EYBL. Alvin Brooks III is in Wichita, Kansas for the Pro16/NXT event while Cody Fueger is in Bryan, Texas for the Adidas 3SSB.

Jack Pilgrim and Zack Geoghegan are following along with Pope and Hart in Indianapolis. They’re touching base with several targets, including 2025 guard Hudson Greer and 2025 wing Shelton Henderson.

KSR had several takeaways from day one of the NCAA Live Period on Friday. Things are getting even busier on Saturday.

Sunday (May 19): NBA Draft Combine Ends

While Mark Pope and Kentucky’s staff scout talent on the high school ranks, some clarity could be coming for next season’s roster. The 2024 NBA Draft Combine comes to end on Sunday, May 19 and stay/go decisions are expected to be made shortly.

All eyes are on BYU forward Jaxson Robinson this week. The 6-foot-5 wing has been participating in the NBA Draft Combine and has a real decision to make about whether to stay in the draft or return to college. The NBA Draft Withdrawal deadline is May 29, so Robinson will still have some time to make a decision.

If he does decide to return to college, Kentucky is expected to be a frontrunner, due to his relationship with Pope. Robinson was perhaps BYU’s best player last season, averaging 14.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from three-point range.

Monday (May 20): Chaz Lanier and Jamie Vinson Visit Kentucky

Kentucky basketball is hosting two important visitors to start the week in North Florida transfer Chaz Lanier and 2024 power forward Jamie Vinson.

Lanier, who is visiting BYU over the weekend, will arrive in Lexington for an official visit on Monday. The visit is expected to last less than 24 hours, a source tells KSR+.

During the 2023-24 season, Lanier averaged 19.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He participated in the NBA G League Elite Camp but is expected to return to college in 2024-25.

Meanwhile, Vinson, a 6-foot-9 forward from Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, VA) Academy, will be visiting Kentucky for an official visit on Monday and Tuesday. Vinson is currently visiting Rutgers from May 18-19.

Vinson is the No. 206 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. He is rated as the nation’s No. 45 power forward and the No. 7 overall player in the state of Virginia.
