What Jeremiah Beaman’s commitment means for Alabama

What Jeremiah Beaman’s commitment means for Alabama

Alabama received its seventh commitment in the 2024 recruiting class (currently ranked No. 3 per On3) on Sunday afternoon. Jeremiah Beaman, Top 100 defensive lineman from Parker High School in Birmingham surprised many with his announcement for the Crimson Tide. On3 Scouting and Rankings Director Charles Power shares his take on the Tide’s latest addition. BamaInsider also takes a look at the top remaining defensive line targets, and who might commit next.

Must-Read: Beaman talks commitment to Alabama

What Beaman brings to Alabama:

Beaman completed his junior season with 50 tackles, 10 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He ranks as the No. 10 defensive lineman in the country per On3 Sports. Charles Power believes Beaman’s well-rounded skill-set, the body of work, his frame and 6-foot-8 wing span make him one of the premier recruits in the country at his position.

“He has a good frame for adding weight. He has big hands and is big jointed. I don’t see him having any problems pushing 290-300-pounds after a year or two in Alabama’s strength program. He is one of the better pass rushers in this overall defensive line class. You see him get in the backfield.

“He lines up on the interior, will line up at defensive end and come off the ball in a two point stance. I think with his versatility it projects really well at Alabama. I can see him starting out at defensive end in a three man front, and depending on where his body ends up could slide inside. He gives the Crimson Tide defense a lot of versatility from being able to play multiple spots.”

There is a long line of success stories on the Alabama defensive front. The list includes two former Birmingham-area high school stars who are now the among the very best in the NFL, Daron Payne and Quinnen Williams.

Beaman hopes he can follow in their same footsteps. Power loves the versatility the Parker High School star possesses. He has some great talent on the defensive side including 2025 five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord and four-star defensive lineman, Jourdin Crawford.

“He has good flexibility.” Power added. “He uses his length, and has good hands. He will continue to hone in on his technical skills once he gets with the Alabama coaching staff. He shows a lot of promise with his pass rushing skills. He had a high sack total for a defensive lineman. He definitely knows how to get to the passer.”

“This is big get for Alabama. Big to get one of the top prospects in the state. He really fits what they like to do on the defensive line. There is history, under Nick Saban, with big defensive ends who can set the edge and potentially slide inside. He can do both. He’s not a finished product. He is just starting to tap into his potential. He will look a good bit different a year or two in the Crimson Tide program.”

The top D-line targets:

2024 five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley (On3/Sam Spiegelman)

One down. More to go. Alabama wants more defensive linemen in this class. It signed four in the 2023 class. The goal is to sign around the same number or possibly more depending on who the staff believes it can add. The next few months will go a long way in determining how good this class will end up on the defensive front.

Alabama is working on several players for official visits next month. Most, at least at this position, remain in the works. There are two players with official visits scheduled next month including Terrance Hibbler, four-star from Holmes County Central in Lexington, Mississippi (June 2-4) and Eddrick Houston, five-star from Buford High School in Georgia (June 23-25). Houston is also recruited by Alabama as an EDGE rusher.

Texas A&M commitment Deayln Evans recently told BamaInsider he intends to take an official visit to Alabama in June. Alabama is also pushing to flip Utah commitment, Isaia Faga. The in-state prospect recently spoke about his high interest in the Crimson Tide.

Alabama continues to push for Dominick McKinley, the No. 3 defensive lineman from Acadiana High School in Louisiana. McKinley has official visits set next month to Ohio State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Texas. Freddie Roach visited McKinley’s school on Thursday.

“It’s been great over there,” McKinley told On3 regarding the Crimson Tide. “They’re working hard to recruit me and want to put me in the league. He (Roach) is a good guy, he’s chill, he works hard and he makes sure his players put in the work, too.”

Alabama is also still working to get a few other five-stars in for visits this summer including Williams Nwarneri, from Lee’s Summitt High School in Missouri, and David Stone, from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Kamron Beavers, four-star from Bay Springs High School in Mississippi, announced his commitment to Ole Miss on Sunday. Beavers received an offer from Alabama earlier this year. He attended the Tide’s Junior Day in January. He did not return for the A-Day game as planned. Alabama will still pursue.

A few others to watch: Kamarion Franklin, LJ McCray and Malik Blockton.

Who’s next?

Four-star LB Demarcus Riddick (Sam Spiegelman, On3)

Alabama hopes the hot streak within its borders will continue. There are a few names to closely follow including Georgia linebacker commitment, Demarcus Riddick. The No. 2 linebacker from Chilton County High School in Clanton, is considered a priority target. He has not indicated a flip is close to happening or that it will. It is, however, possible to go in Alabama’s favor. It’s always one to watch.

The only target with a set commitment date in less than two weeks is Anthony Rogers, 2025 running back from IMG Academy. The Pike Road (Ala.) native transferred to the national powerhouse program earlier this year. He announced a top five on Sunday: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Oregon. Tuscaloosa County running back Kevin Riley hasn’t revealed any of his summer visit plans to this point. Another possible in-state/local commitment is one Alabama would enjoy. This remains an in-state battle with Auburn.

Official visits begin in less than two weeks for Alabama. A commitment from the first weekend isn’t currently expected, but it also wouldn’t come as a surprise if Terrance Hibbler wants to jump on the defensive line commitment train after seeing Beaman announce on Sunday.
