Wednesday’s Dawg Biscuits: Updates on 2025 prospects Christian Jeffrey, Geron Johnson and 2026 prospect Emanuel Tucker

Step inside for the latest on several 2025 and 2026 prospects on Mississippi State’s radar in football and basketball along with team news:

First Biscuit – Starting the day with basketball recruiting, on Tuesday I talked to a few sources regarding 2025 Mississippi State commitment and On3 three-star center Chol Machot of Florida Southwestern College. Machot transferred to Florida Southwestern College last December and redshirted this past season, thus leaving him three years to play at the next level. Machot is expected to play the four and the five this season and he could end up doing that, as well, at the next level and we will see how that process goes. As you’ve noticed, Mississippi State is still recruiting a couple of centers in this class with Jayden Leverette and Tee Bartlett. But sources noted that things are still solid with Mississippi State and Machot and he is expected to officially sign with the Bulldogs in November.

Second Biscuit – Staying with basketball recruiting a little longer, on Tuesday I talked with 2025 point guard and On3 four-star prospect Christian Jeffrey of Mount Zion (Md.) Prep, who is officially visiting Mississippi State this coming weekend. Jeffrey said he looks forward to seeing how State’s players are with their coaches and how the program is run under head coach Chris Jans. He added that he wants to see, as well, how hard the team works preparing for the season. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native is also friends with State freshman Dellquan Warren and said he’s built up good relationships with Jans and assistant coach Patrice Days. Jeffrey has already officially visited Oklahoma State and Maryland, and said he also has official visits scheduled for Texas A&M and Penn State in September. He plans to make his college decision at some point in October and isn’t listing his top favorites just yet.

Third Biscuit – Moving to football and team news for a minute, after Tuesday’s practice we talked again with Mississippi State junior linebacker Stone Blanton. On having the helmet communication this season, Blanton said he loves that new feature and said it helps them process things quicker, and helps them fix things quicker. Blanton also said he likes the new rule of having IPads on the sidelines to see the video of their plays and said it’s easier to comprehend that compared to seeing it on a chalkboard. Blanton said their defensive rotations will be huge for this team with no drop off in talent. He added that when you play 70-80 snaps a game, that makes the risk for injuries grow a lot higher. With it being his first game as a Bulldog, Blanton said he had to get a lot of tickets and that for the first time in his career, he will have his whole family at the game.

Fourth Biscuit – Moving to football recruiting, on Tuesday I exchanged a few messages with 2025 Mississippi State commitment and On3 three-star running back Geron Johnson of Bartlett (Tenn.) High School. As you saw, Johnson opened up his senior season with a bang with a career-high 338 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a win over MUS. Johnson noted that all of the hard work he put in during the offseason is showing, particularly with his improved strength. Johnson said he won’t be able to make Mississippi State’s season opener this weekend due to already having something scheduled, but added he plans to be at Davis Wade Stadium multiple times this season. If he continues to put up good numbers this year, I definitely expect him to attract more recruiting attention. But I also believe he will remain solid with State due to the relationships him and his family have with State’s staff.

Fifth Biscuit – Also on Tuesday, I did some checking on this weekend’s expected visitors and talked to a few targets earlier this week about their plans (some of which I have noted in the Biscuits). Mississippi State is not expecting to host any official visitors and as mentioned before, we will see a handful of official visitors throughout the season but the majority of official visits took place in June. The Bulldogs have 29 remaining official visits and that includes transfers that visit after the season in December. Mississippi State is expected to have a solid list of unofficial visitors, however, from the Class of 2025 and Class of 2026. With the 2025 class, top targets Zavion Hardy, Tony Mitchell and Tyler Lockhart are expected to attend State’s season opener along with On3 composite four-star receiver Cameron Sparks. I should have the entire list later today and will post that once I have it.

And for the gravy on top – And lastly today, on Tuesday I exchanged a few messages with 2026 offensive lineman prospect Emanuel Tucker of New Albany High School, who opens his junior season this Friday. Tucker collected several SEC offers during the summer camp scene and last week he added another SEC offer from Florida. Tucker also noted that LSU, Texas A&M and Cincinnati are starting to show more interest, as well. Tucker mentioned that he will be at Mississippi State’s season opener and he continues to talk well of his relationships with head coach Jeff Lebby and offensive line coach Cody Kennedy. Naturally, he has a long way to go with his recruiting process with more Power 4 offers in his future. But it is easy to see that Mississippi State has made a great impression on him early on in his recruiting process.
