WATCH: New Georgia pledge Demello Jones dominates on both sides of ball

Georgia’s No. 1-ranked 2024 class got a boost earlier this week. Swainsboro (Swainsboro, Ga.) athlete Demello Jones committed to the Bulldogs, becoming the 10th pledge in the class.

The four-star prospect is coming off a junior season where he shined on both offense and defense, playing multiple positions on each side of the ball.

At 6-foot-1 176 pounds, Jones is ranked as the No. 97 overall prospect and No. 7 athlete in the 2024 class per the On3 Industry-ranking, which is a weighted average of all four recruiting outlets. Jones is viewed as the No. 15 player in Georgia.

Jones chose Georgia over the likes of Alabama, South Carolina and Florida. The Bulldogs are recruiting him to play cornerback.

“I was fortunate enough to be recruited by the best universities and the best staffs in the country and for that I’m grateful,” Jones told On3. “But when talking to Coach Fran Brown and the staff at the University of Georgia, I didn’t feel like I was being recruited. I felt like I was already in his cornerbacks room and already a member of the team, so it felt like home.”

Despite getting the full-court press from multiple out of state schools, Jones sees value in remaining in the Peach State and the education he can get in Athens.

“I’m also big on my family being able to watch me play, and the fact that they can make a day trip seven to eight times a year to watch me was huge,” he added. “My mom is my everything and the fact that she’ll be able to come to see me most of the season played a huge role in my decision.

“…The last thing is the education is second to none in the country. I’m going to be able to receive a top-notch degree all while competing for and winning National Championships on a yearly basis.”
