WATCH: Billy Napier goes in-depth on Gators at SEC Media Days

NASHVILLE — Florida coach Billy Napier made his second appearance at SEC Media Days on Wednesday, this time making the trip to Nashville. Gators Online was on hand for live coverage of the event.

Prior to Napier taking the main stage at Grand Hyatt, he met with a select group of local and national reporters to discuss the Florida Gators for the first time since the full 2023 roster was released.

Napier addressed a number of topics during his 15-minute media scrum, including the QB competition, his team’s depth, an injury update, play-calling duties, UF’s new defensive coordinator and more.

“We went through an extensive evaluation of Year 1,” Napier said. “Consistency stuff. Can we handle success? We like to talk about handling failure but every time we got momentum last year we fell flat on our face. So, we essentially lose five one-score games. The margin of error in this league is real small. I think we learned a lot from that, and I think we’ll benefit from that this year.”

“I think we’re really benefitting from year two. I firmly believe in that compound effect. Everybody likes to talk about the players in year two. I think there’s a huge benefit — we’ve been fortunate. We’ve had minimal attrition. We’ve had a few second and third tier people throughout the building (depart) but we have a really large group that we’ve been able to retain. Everything we’re doing we’re doing for the second time. We’ve benefited from the Heavener Center. Just much more comfortable in year two. I’m very pleased with the players, and certainly, we’re just getting better in all parts of our process in this second year.”
