Washington State transfer guard Isaiah Watts commits to Maryland

Former Washington State guard Isaiah Watts has committed to Maryland, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Watts entered the transfer portal on March 24.

He spent two seasons at Washington State. Watts averaged 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 28.8 minutes per game this season. The 6-foot-3 sophomore shot 38.9% from the field and 34.8% from beyond the arc.

Watts had his best performance of the season in Washington State’s 96-81 win over Eastern Washington on Nov. 21. In the victory, Watts erupted for a career-high 22 points while shooting 4-7 from 3-point range.

Watts’ sophomore campaign was a significant step forward for the Washington native. In the 2023-24 season, Watts only averaged 3.7 points in 10.1 minutes per game.

Before playing at WSU, Watts spent one year South Kent School (CT), a postgraduate school. While there, he led the team to a New England Prep School AAA championship and an appearance in the 2023 National Prep Championships.

Watts played high school basketball at West Seattle (WA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 277 overall player and No. 44 point guard in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Now, Watts will look to reach new heights at Maryland. He won’t be the only fresh face on the Terrapins this season. The program has already added five players via the transfer portal this offseason, including former Texas A&M starter Pharrel Payne.

Payne followed his head coach, Buzz Williams, in his move from College Station to Maryland. After Texas A&M lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Williams accepted an offer to replace Kevin Willard as the Terrapins’ next head coach.

Williams spent six seasons at Texas A&M, where he amassed a 120-73 overall record and a 56-44 mark in conference play. He led the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament three times but never took the program to a Sweet Sixteen.

Williams reportedly signed a six-year deal at Maryland. With Isaiah Watts by his side, the 52-year-old head coach will look to take the Terrapins to new heights.
