Volume II: Still way-too-early prediction for Texas’ 2025 recruiting class
When it comes to recruiting the Texas staff is challenging to cover because of its constantly evolving big board. Don’t get me wrong, it makes it more fun than the approaches of the preceding Texas staffs, but one has to be ready to pivot.
Here’s Volume I to illustrate that point. Needless to say, a lot has changed in three months.
As we get closer to the summer decision window of July and August I’ll probably write this article a bit more frequently.
Quarterback
KJ Lacey, Saraland (Ala.) – Texas
Commentary: I would punt the need for two quarterbacks to 2026 where Texas will almost assuredly land one of Troy Huhn or Dia Bell.
Running Back
James Simon, Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist Academy
Rickey Stewart, Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill – Texas
Commentary: Chalk.
Wide Receiver
Dakorien Moore, Duncanville (Texas)
Jaime Ffrench, Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin
Marcus Harris, Sachse (Texas)
Kelshaun Johnson, Hitchcock (Texas)
Commentary: I thought about putting Kaliq Lockett and Andrew Marsh in there, I just don’t think there are enough footballs to go around for those two. Even if Texas has to wait for Moore’s ultimate decision, Ffrench and Harris will likely be used by rival schools to negative recruit Texas.
What’s impossible to know is if the Texas board has shifted recently, or if it will shift before June OV’s.
Tight End
Emaree Winston, Calhoun (Ga.) – Texas
Kiotti Armstrong, Jasper (Texas)
Commentary: Armstrong will likely devolve into a **** measuring contest between Texas and A&M. That makes it hard to predict but it does help that Texas has recent success at the position and Tyanthony Smith on campus.
Offensive Line
Michael Fasusi, Lewisville (Texas)
John Mills, San Francisco (Calif.) St. Ignatius College Preparatory
Jordan Coleman, Cedar Hill (Texas)
Devin Coleman, Cedar Hill (Texas)
Jackson Christian, Port Neches (Texas) Port Neches-Groves
Commentary: Fasusi won’t be easy but I’ll ride with my UT prediction. Mills and the Colemans seem like locks if Kyle Flood keeps pushing. I struggled between Jackson Christian and Lamont Rogers.
Defensive Tackle
Brandon Brown, Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie – Texas
Myron Charles, Port Charlotte (Fla.)
Zion Williams, Lufkin (Texas)
DJ Sanders, Bellville (Texas)
Commentary: In no way do I feel Texas is going to land all three of these. I’d be happy to be correct on 2/4 at this point. I just don’t know who else to add. I think Texas has cooled on the right players but that only works if they have newer tangible options. A mercenary recruit might be just what the doctor ordered at this position. I’d love to throw Josiah Sharma in there, but while I do feel Texas is a plausible destination I’m concerned with Alabama.
Edge
Lance Jackson, Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove – Texas
Marco Jones, Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley
Smith Orogbo, Houston (Texas) Alief Hastings
Commentary: Neither Hayden Lowe or Damien Shanklin have been to campus enough for me to feel good about UT’s chances. However, Texas has made good in-roads with Shanklin.
Linebacker
Elijah Barnes, Dallas (Texas) Skyline – Texas
Riley Pettijohn, McKinney (Texas)
Jonathan Cunningham, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley
Commentary: Everyone is confident on Pettijohn and Texas. That is old news. What remains to be seen is if Texas can make waves with an OOS player. Nansen needs numbers in the class after a couple losses and the expected departure of Anthony Hill a year early.
Cornerback
Dorian Brew, Conroe (Texas)
Caleb Chester, Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall
Devin Williams, Buford (Ga.) – Auburn
Commentary: Brew will be a heavy lift but Texas can win it despite his family ties to Ohio State and LSU. Watch USC as well.
Chester is a Texas/Aggie battle.
I could easily see Aidan Anding in place of Williams but we could see a big bounce in Williams’ recruitment after his OV.
Safety
Jonah Williams, Galveston (Texas) Ball
Commentary: This will be one of the most hotly contested recruitments of the cycle. That means it’s an institutional recruitment. Texas, Texas A&M, and maybe LSU.
At one point I felt like Kade Phillips was a lock for the class but he wants a shot at cornerback first.

As always, keep in mind there are a number of ‘first come, first served’ scholarship allocations.
