Vols ‘at the top’ for 4-star in-state Safety Jaylan Morgan

Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Rockvale High School standout 2025 defensive back Jaylan Morgan is one of the top in-state prospects in the class. He was at Tennessee for the Volunteers’ “Big Orange Kickoff” to end July. He discussed the visit with Volquest.
“We got to go talk to the coaches, meet all the coaches, go through the staff, meet everybody, kind of build a relationship, get to know them,” Morgan said about the highlights of the trip. “Then we went to go do some activities, like play Madden. That was pretty fun and competitive., and shadowboxing, that was probably one of my favorite parts of the day. Then we went to go eat some quality food. It was pretty good, and then just chilled and talked to the coaches, photoshoot and that’s it.”
Morgan spent a lot of time around the Tennessee coaching staff during the visit, especially Tim Banks and Willie Martinez. The communication with those two continues to stand out to the 6-0, 175-pound prospect
“They talk to me in a different type of way,” Morgan said of this. “They’ve actually been trying to build relationships with me throughout this whole recruiting process. They don’t really just care about me as a football player and I can tell that. They make sure they check up on my grades, how I’m doing, how my family’s doing and that’s really important to me.”
Being made an early priority by the staff is something the four-star defender covets in his recruitment.
“It means a lot and that’s what I’m looking for in a school,” Morgan said. “Like I don’t want to be just any other old football player that just comes through here that they only care about me through my four years. I want to be a part of a family. I want to come and feel like I’m a part of something.”
Tennessee has told Morgan they like his versatility as a defender, and he enjoys hearing that message. He also believes his physicality helps him immensely.
“I can play anything they want me to,” the four-star said. “I love that (they see my versatility) and I think they would like to take advantage of that, if I end up coming here or committing. I would say my willingness to hit. Most DBs are considered scary nowadays and I just ignore that. I like getting physical. No matter if it’s a lineman, even if I get pancaked, I’m still going to try to get down and dirty.”
Following Saturday’s visit, Morgan remains high on the Vols’ early in his process.
“They’re one of the top,” he said. “I have talked with them the most, and I’ve been here probably the most out of all the colleges. They’re for sure at the top.”
Morgan is currently rated as the No.159 overall prospect and No.11 safety prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 rates Morgan as the No.236 overall prospect and No.19 safety.
Morgan holds early offers from Alabama, Colorado, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, among others.
