Volquest Podcast: Expectations vs. Reality for Tennessee football in 2023
What should the expectations be for the Tennessee Volunteers this fall under third-year head coach Josh Heupel? Coming off an 11-2 season with a New Year’s Six bowl victory over Clemson, will the Vols reach double-digit wins again? What about quarterback Joe Milton – what should we expect from his play?
Tennessee basketball appears to have figured out the numbers situation on its roster with three incoming transfers as rising sophomore point guard BJ Edwards entered the transfer portal on Friday. How does this team compare to last year’s and is the ceiling higher for this new group of players?
Brent Hubbs, Rob Lewis, Eric Cain and Grant Ramey discuss it all on this week’s edition of the Volquest Podcast. It’s presented by Exterior Home Solutions. For a free estimate, give them a call at 865-524-5888.
Quote of the Pod
Brent Hubbs on Joe Milton and the Vols entering the fall…
“I think one of the most fascinating things about this team for the next three months, if you will, is the love affair that everybody has nationally right now with Joe Milton. I’m not saying Joe Milton can’t play. I think he can and I think there’s a lot of ability there. He had a really good Orange Bowl with a month to prep but, but the notion that Joe Milton is the next this or the next that, I mean, there’s a pretty good leap of faith being made by a lot of people around Joe Milton. I don’t necessarily disagree with it, but I still have a little bit of, prove it to me.
“I don’t think 11 wins is what you just expect because you did it in 2022. Now, there’s a lot of magic there involved and a lot of things fell Tennessee’s way and went right and Tennessee took advantage of those opportunities that they were given. But Joe doesn’t have to be – like I said – Joe doesn’t have to be Hendon [Hooker] and this offense doesn’t have to be as crazy productive as it was in 2022 because, you know, you should make a little bit of ground up on the defensive side of the ball. You have a little bit more depth there. You have a little bit more pieces that they’re happy with on that side of the ball. So, maybe you’re a little bit more productive defensively. That helps you take care of the offense, but you’re not going to beat Alabama every year.”
