Visitor preview: Big recruiting weekend at Notre Dame includes a five-star prospect

Visitor preview: Big recruiting weekend at Notre Dame includes a five-star prospect

Notre Dame has 13 official visitors expected on campus this weekend as the Fighting Irish staff continues their busy summer in the 2024 recruiting class.

Blue & Gold has the names due in for Marcus Freeman and Co. and what you need to know ahead of the weekend.

HUGE LIST OF NOTRE DAME COMMITS

Nine of the official visitors for the Irish are currently committed to Notre Dame. This includes all three of Notre Dame’s defensive back commitments in Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller’s Karson Hobbs, Round Rock (Texas) High’s Leonard Moore and Chandler (Ariz.) High’s Kennedy Urlacher.

Notre Dame will have its two linebackers commits on campus as well. Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry High’s Bodie Kahoun and Omaha (Neb.) Westside’s Teddy Rezac are both set to return to South Bend.

Three of Notre Dame’s four defensive line commits are scheduled to arrive to campus as well. Those players are Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek’s Cole Mullins, Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International DL Sean Sevillano and Katy (Texas) Paetow EDGE Loghan Thomas.

The only Notre Dame commit on offense officially visiting this weekend is Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South’s Cam Williams. Additionally, Saline (Mich.) High quarterback and Irish pledge CJ Carr will be on campus for a second straight weekend to help recruit. He’ll take his official visit next weekend.

THE TARGETS

There are four uncommitted prospects using their Notre Dame official visit this weekend. Here they are:

El Campo (Texas) High safety Oliver Miles: This is an absolutely huge visit for Notre Dame. As we reported Thursday morning, the Irish aren’t expected to land Paul Mencke Jr., so the search for another safety commit continues. Notre Dame has Urlacher committed and looks to be in a really good spot with in-state talent Tae Johnson. It’s first-come, first-serve on the safety board, and Miles has an opportunity to lock in a spot this weekend. Notre Dame loves him and hopes he favors the Irish.

Ainsworth (Neb.) High tight end Carter Nelson: This is a tough recruitment to read, and I have more questions than answers. Reports suggest that he’s leaning towards Georgia, but the Bulldogs already have two tight end commits. Would they take three in a class, and would Nelson want to be a part of that? Does Nelson want to stay in-state and play for Nebraska? Where does Penn State — the school he visits next weekend — fit in his recruitment? Heck, where does Notre Dame fit in? We should get more clarity on the Irish side of things about his recruitment after his visit.

Tuscon (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic EDGE Elijah Rushing: The five-star talent fits in the “take no matter what” category for Notre Dame’s 2024 class. He’s elite as they come, and this weekend will be his third time in South Bend. It’s been 14 months since his last trip to campus. Oregon is considered the team to beat per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), and UCLA, Notre Dame and Tennessee are very much in this race as well. Depending on who you talk to on the Irish side of things, confidence levels vary. This weekend is absolutely crucial for Notre Dame in its hopes to land him.

Hoover (Ala.) High linebacker Bradley Shaw: This is a very interesting recruitment, and it’s a very real possibility that Notre Dame could go into the state of Alabama and land a prospect with offers from the Crimson Tide and Tigers. While I get the sense that Nick Saban‘s program may not be in hot pursuit right now, Auburn is, and Georgia is active in this recruitment as well. Shaw’s older brother, Bradrick, played running back at Wisconsin a few years ago; this family is not afraid to send one of their kids to the Midwest. While Auburn should be considered the team to beat going into the visit, don’t be surprised if the Fighting Irish is the school on top after it.
