Virginia LB locks in official visit with Miami Hurricanes after Derek Nicholson evaluation: “They’re definitely in my top 3”

After visiting the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia) area during the first week of May, Miami Hurricanes linebackers coach Derek Nicholson made a return trip to Maryland late last week to evaluate Severn (MD) Archbishop Spalding 2024 linebacker Keyshawn Flowers

Since visiting Miami in March, the three-star prospect’s relationship with the Hurricanes has grown tremendously, which led to Flowers scheduling an official visit with the ‘Canes from June 9–11.

“I would say they’re definitely in my top three,” Flowers told CaneSport. “I think they’re building something over there and they have a plan for me. It feels like family down there.”

With Nicholson leading the recruiting charge for the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, Flowers believes his bond with him is the strongest within the Miami staff, and he feels like a priority for the Hurricanes in the 2024 cycle.

“He’s been showing a lot of love, and he told me I’m high on his list,” Flowers said. “It’s cool having him come visit again. He was just here a week ago, and he came back. It’s really cool seeing that.”

Thus far, the No. 477 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to On3 Industry Ranking says Miami, Maryland, Virginia, and Notre Dame are among some of his top programs.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Cavaliers are the current favorites to land his commitment at the moment, leading all programs with a 24.7% probability, followed by Maryland with an 11.3% probability, and Penn State rounding out the top three with a 9.7% probability.

When making his final decision, Flowers will be focusing on which program can help him excel not only on the field but off of it as well.

“A school that is going to support me with football and academically,” Flowers said. “Just so I can be successful in both of those departments. Really, just if I make it to the NFL or when I finish up college, they can provide a good job.”

CaneSport’s take

Flowers, who has an On3 NIL Valuation of $27,000, believes the Hurricanes are doing all the right things at the moment and that if they keep doing so and his official visit goes well, they could be a serious contender to land his commitment.

“They just have to keep doing what they’re doing,” Flowers said. “They’re showing a lot of love, and I really appreciate that. I just want them to continue that and support me through the process.”
