Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans haven’t gotten off to the fastest start when it comes to the 2024 recruiting cycle. While they only have three commitments so far, the Trojans are in the mix for several of the nation’s top prospects.
One of those top prospects is Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star cornerback Marcelles Williams.
Following recent industry updates, the Trojans are the overwhelming favorite to land a pledge from Williams according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). USC currently sits at an 84.8% chance to land Williams’ commitment.
Williams is the No. 66 overall prospect and No. 6 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 6 player in California.
USC has hosted Williams more than any other school up to this point in his recruitment. He was last on campus March 23 and is set to return for an official visit June 16.
The trip back to Southern California is one of two officials he has set as he’ll go to Oklahoma a week before.
“There is no doubt about that,” Williams told WeAreSC being a top target for the Trojans. “A lot of schools see me playing anywhere in the defensive backfield. But I specifically like playing cornerback. That’s my favorite position.”
Williams also noted in the interview with WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader that he’ll likely make his college commitment decision sometime during the summer before his senior season begins.
Riley and co. looking to build off impressive 2023 class
In his first full cycle at the helm, Lincoln Riley put together a top-10 class for the Trojans.
USC wrapped up the 2023 recruiting cycle signing the No. 9 class in the country and the No. 2 class in the Pac-12 with 22 signees. That class finished 39 spots higher than their 2022 class.
While the class only had two top-100 players in it, it was highlighted by a pair of five-star recruits in wide receiver Zachariah Branch and quarterback Malachi Nelson.
Currently USC boasts the No. 18 class in the country and the No. 4 class in the Pac-12.
Their commits so far include Los Angeles (Calif.) Sierra Canyon top-100 wide receiver Xavier Jordan, Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge four-star tight end Joey Olsen and McKinney (Texas) three-star running back Bryan Jackson.
