USC Official Visit In The Works For Cornerback Dakoda Fields

USC Official Visit In The Works For Cornerback Dakoda Fields

Junipero Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields has visited USC a total of five times, the most of any school recruiting him. Fields was most recently on campus March 4th. WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader had the chance to talk to Fields about the significance of his most recent visit and where USC stands in his recruitment.

Fields currently holds 20 offers from schools all over the country. USC offered the 6-1, 175 pound corner way back in April of 2022. He’s been a top target for the Trojans ever since.

The effect of March 4th visit

Fields has been to USC many times but some visits are different than others.

“They gave me a thing called ‘The Player Panel’. Which is where they got a group of players, most of them at my position and they just gave me an interview about what it’s like being a student athlete at USC.”

The talented corner has already figured out what he would like to major in.

“I got to have a meeting with the Head of the Real Estate program. Which is something I want to major in so that was pretty exciting too.”

Fields isn’t worried about USC’s defense

The No. 10 cornerback in the class of 2024 has been in attendance for practices and is confident that USC’s defense can and will improve in the 2023 season.

“Well for me, I think Donte (Williams) is a really good coach, I think he’ll develop me. As far as the defense in general, I don’t think SC’s defense was that bad last year. Their tackling just needs to be better.”

It’s no secret that USC struggled to make tackles late in the 2022 season, however they’re making sure that recruits know it’s being worked on.

“I haven’t watched any film from the games last year but at practice they usually point it (the tackling) out.”

USC official visit in the works

With Fields being a local recruit and one of USC’s top defensive back targets, it’s a no-brainer that he’ll take an official visit to USC, the date just hasn’t been worked out yet.

“I might take one in June, I’m still making that decision right now though.”

Last year, USC held their ‘Golden Hour’ visit weekend on June 17-19. During that visit the recruits went to the Crypto.com Arena, Lincoln Riley’s house and did many more activities. This year is shaping up to be the same thing again.

“I think I’ll be doing the same thing, going to his (Lincoln Riley) house, meeting everyones family,” said Fields.

Official visits to other schools

The No. 84 overall recruit in the class of 2024 doesn’t have any official visits locked in yet, but he has an idea of what schools will get one from him. He wants to visit Oregon, USC, “Ohio State, Miami just because it’s Miami, and I don’t really have a fifth one right now,” Fields said.

Location nor climate isn’t a factor when Fields is deciding which school he’ll go to, “I don’t care what climate I play in to be honest, I’ve been getting used to it going on all these visits.”

What Fields is looking for in a school

Most recruits all want the same thing, development, Fields is no different.

“Development, life after football, I’m not really stressing about playing early, I just want to be developed and be out in three years.”

Fields’ mother wants him to get his degree but his “goal is to get out in three years, so if I have to go back to college then that’s fine with me.”

USC trending

Six months ago USC has a lot of work to do with Fields. The Trojans were well behind the Oregon Ducks and several other schools at that time. But Coach Donte Williams has had Fields on campus at USC multiple times and the last visit vaulted USC into an extremely strong spot.

We’re told USC could be hard to beat, but the Trojans will need to show significant improvement defensively this season to close on guys like Fields, Marcelles Williams, Zabien Bown and others.

As of today, USC has a 53% two 28% chance at landing Fields per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
