USC Hits Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Official Visit Out of the Park
The first question I ask a prospect after an official visit, has never been about an opportunity to meet a former player while on the visit. But the player I asked Elite 4-Star St. John Bosco Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa about, isn’t your ordinary or average player.
The player Viliamu-Asa not only met, but had breakfast with on Saturday, was the GOAT himself and NFL Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu. I’ll likely leave as much of the quotes in tact as possible from Viliamu-Asa.
Kyngstonn and his family took their USC official visit last weekend and it ended late Sunday night. He called around 9pm after he arrived home.
“It was my whole family’s first time being able to meet him, but man,” said Viliamu-Asa. “We sat down and had breakfast with him and…both of our families. And really he was just touched on his journey and his experience. He really just gave a lot of knowledge and advice on what made him great. And what could have made him greater. What made the people around him great.
“It wasn’t even about USC, it was just about him as a person and his experiences from, from high school on the NFL. Yeah. Him getting to know us and us getting to know him. But he did say the experience at USC was great and he talked about how much has changed in LA. How the bells and whistles weren’t there in his day. He didn’t choose a college for all of that. He chose USC for what it was. Yeah, it was really impactful.
“Meeting him (Troy Polamalu) was one of the most impactful encounters I’ve ever had in my life.”

Did the visit meet Viliamu-Asa’s expectations?
This was Viliamu-Asa’s first official visit, so he has nothing to compare it to. But he did confirm the visit helped USC significantly.
“Yeah, they (USC) went above and beyond, I would say,” said Viliamu-Asa. “They exceeded expectations for me and my family.”
Impact of USC’s move to the BIG-10
“I think the move to the BIG-10 is really big too,” Viliamu-Asa said. “And not just for me, I think it is for a lot of us. The BIG-10 move was definitely very impactful when it was announced, but I think the seeing the schedule just, you know, made made it that much more realistic to us. Seeing the kind of teams I’m gonna be playing against….plus the opportunity to develop at USC as players.”
Linebackers Coach Brian Odom
“We got to spend a lot of time with Coach Odom and sit down with him and really talk ball,” said Viliamu-Asa. “I think what Coach Odom and the defensive staff have done a great job with what they had to work with. I think with the kind of guys they’re getting and what they’re trying to do defensively, they’re definitely going in the right direction. And Coach Odom really showed me that, that he truly cares for his players and he wants to put these players in the best position to succeed.
“He’s gonna do everything in his power to make sure we’re playing the best we’re capable of. And as a linebacker coach and talking ball with them, that was really important. I like all the ways he plans on using me and how I fit into the defense in the future.”
Role in the USC defense
“At USC I would be learning how to play MIKE and WILL,” Viliamu-Asa said. “Both of those spots are interchangeable, so nice. Learning both of those spots and possibly playing next to Tackett Curtis.”
Just Kyngstonn & Peyton
Any official visit taken is always a blessing and kids always have lasting memories, but taking these visits with close friends and teammates hits different. Viliamu-Asa shared his thoughts on sharing the weekend experience with Woodyard.
“Yeah, I think just being there with just us two meant a lot to us,” Viliamu-Asa said. “For the staff to have an opportunity for an intimate visit with just us, that meant a lot and spoke a lot of words. But having my boy (Peyton) there was great. Having him there and being able to talk with the coaches about the impact that we could have on the class of 2024….and who we would be able to help keep in California. It definitely got us thinking.”
