USC cement themselves as contender for 2025 Texas LB?

USC played host to class of 2025 McKinney (Tex.) top-100 linebacker Riley Pettijohn earlier this month. The visit was his first to USC and the Trojans impressed the young defender. Pettijohn has seen his recruitment grow this offseason, earning near all of his offers since the turn of the year.

Some of his recent offers include Auburn, Texas A&M, and of course USC, which he earned in late March.

Pettijohn took his visit to USC with McKinney teammate and fellow Trojan target, 2024 running back Bryan Jackson. Jackson, who is currently favored to land at USC, is set to commit this Friday. Being with a teammate was a beneficial aspect of his visit, but the Trojans impressed on their own as well.

“It was great, I loved the coaches and the facility too. Their facility was the best I’ve been to,” Pettijohn said in a brief conversation.

USC is one of the more high profile offers Pettijohn has earned to this time and they have stood out.

Pettijohn tells me he will make a return visit to USC, but he is not sure of when that will be yet. With USC currently favored to land his teammate and friend Jackson, the Trojans will have a unique connection and potential advantage in his recruitment.

Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM)

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound back holds 15 total offers. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, hometown SMU has the lead for his commitment at 67.2%. 

SMU and USC are currently the only schools Pettijohn has visited to this time.

Pettijohn has an On3 NIL Valuation of $155K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
