The College World Series field is nearly all set, as Super Regionals of the NCAA Baseball Tournament are set to wrap up Monday. Six teams have already punched their ticket to Omaha, and the remaining four participants will be determined in two Game 3s on Monday.
Florida became the first team to advance to the CWS with a 4-0 victory to complete a series sweep of South Carolina on Saturday. TCU was the only other team to make the field Saturday after defeating Indiana State to complete a sweep of its own. On Sunday, four more teams joined the Gators and Horned Frogs in achieving a College World Series berth.
Firstly, a pair of ACC schools — Virginia and Wake Forest — punched their ticket with dominant victories. The Demon Deacons hit nine home runs as they defeated Alabama by a score of 22-5 on Sunday to complete the series sweep and end the Crimson Tide’s season. The tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Wake Forest has outscored its opponents by a combined 75-16 in Regional and Super Regional play. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers bounced back after dropping Game 1 of Super Regionals against Duke to reel off back-to-back wins against the Blue Devils, including 12-2 on Sunday.
Later Sunday evening, Oral Roberts became just the third Regional four-seed in NCAA Tournament history to reach the College World Series with an 11-6 win against Oregon. Golden Eagles star Jonah Cox extended his hitting streak to an astounding 47 games in the win, recording an RBI single. ORU will make its way to Omaha as the clear underdog story.
LSU also punched its ticket with an 8-3 victory to complete the series sweep of Kentucky. The Tigers used a three-RBI home run from Cade Beloso to take the lead for good in the third inning on their way to reaching their 19th CWS in program history. They are the second SEC school to make the field and Tennessee has a chance to become the third if it can beat Southern Miss in Game 3 on Monday.
