Update on the Kansas State offer for Jalen Montonati

Update on the Kansas State offer for Jalen Montonati

Kansas State struck in 2024 by landing Oklahoma native David Castillo. The Bartlesville product picked the Wildcats over Kansas and Oklahoma State. And while they are putting the first touches on the 2025 cycle as well, Jerome Tang and K-State are already mining the 2026 class.

Owasso High Jalen Montonati was offered by Kansas State on March 14. They joined Oklahoma State and Tulsa in doing so. Others that have since joined the mix are Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Arkansas, Tennessee and Iowa.

“I was extremely blessed and super excited to receive the offer,” Montonati told KSO.

K-State assistant Rodney Perry extended the offer to the rising high school sophomore. He ran the Castillo recruitment as well and has handled that particular region since joining the Wildcats’ coaching staff.

“Perry just told me to keep working, and that he will see me this Summer,” Montonati pointed out.

It was the first time the two had spoken, but the Kansas State coach left a strong, first impression. In fact, Montonati was aware of him from his days being involved on the AAU circuit.

“Perry’s a great guy,” he noted. “I’ve been following him since he was coaching at MoKan and I love what he does.”

Montonati holds K-State in high regard, and much of it stemmed from the success of the past season. It will be a common theme to hear that the Wildcats have received a boost with recruits because of their run to the Elite Eight and contending for a Big 12 championship. a

“Definitely,” he acknowledged. “That they were picked last to finish in the Big 12 and made it that far has stood out to me. The big-time win over Kentucky for a big-time program. I love what Coach Tang and the whole coaching staff is doing there.”

The style of play is also appealing for the budding star.

“They like to play fast,” Montonati explained. “Really everyone on the court can shoot, and they do a lot of high pick-and-roll.”

Oklahoma State has also made a large and pointed push for his services thus far.

“I’ve known the coaches there for quite a while,” Montonati admitted. “I met Coach (Mike) Boynton when I was in the seventh grade, so I have a pretty good connection with all of them.”
