UNC releases hype video ahead of season opener vs. South Carolina
The Saturday night matchup between the UNC Tar Heels and the South Carolina Gamecocks is one of the more highly anticipated matchups in Week 1 of the 2023 college football season. On Friday night, UNC dropped their hype video ahead of the rivalry game.

UNC returns one of the nation’s most dynamic signal-callers in Drake Maye. He’s expected to be a top selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Maye is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in America and his skills alone are a reason to tune in to this game. The ‘Heels also return their dynamic group of tailbacks (Elijah Green, Omarion Hampton, Caleb Hood, and others) on the offensive side of the football.
The South Carolina Gamecocks feature Spencer Rattler under center. He had a bit of an up-and-down season last year, but when he got hot in the big games, he helped to propel South Carolina to some of the bigger wins in school history.
The Gamecocks also feature true freshman wide receiver Nyckoles Harbor, one of the most coveted recruits in program history. The former five-star prospect is blessed with world class speed (10.29 seconds in the 100-meter dash) and size (6-foot-5, 225 pounds). He also has aspirations to compete in the Olympics in the future. He was ranked as the No. 1 athlete in America, according to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2023 cycle. Harbor will be must see TV every time he sets foot onto the field.
Tez Walker will not play in season opener for UNC
UNC transfer wideout Tez Walker won’t play in the season opener against South Carolina in Charlotte on Saturday as he awaits a final eligibility decision from the NCAA. He was deemed ineligible for a transfer waiver in August.
The Tar Heels have not exhausted options and are appealing the decision further to the NCAA. However, a decision won’t be coming in time for Walker to be eligible for Week 1. Head coach Mack Brown released a statement calling out the NCAA and pushing for Walker to be declared eligible.
“Our institution has been pushing for Tez’s case to be reviewed by the assigned committee, so that it could be heard prior to our first game. But, the NCAA’s unwillingness to provide clarification over the last few weeks has left us in this position,” Brown said.
UNC and South Carolina will kick off on Saturday night at 7:30 PM EST. That game will be nationally televised on ABC. The last time the two teams faced off was in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in 2021, when the Gamecocks prevailed 38-21.
