UCF upsets No. 4 Arizona again, takes series in Tucson

The Knights are always ready for a battle. For the second straight night, UCF beat Arizona in Tucson as the Knights powered their way to a 5-4 series clinching win.

Despite the somewhat lower scoring game, this one was a hit fest. The two teams combined for 25 hits on Saturday. UCF sustained an early punch from Arizona after the Wildcats scored two runs in the first two innings via a Kaiah Altmeyer RBI double and Tayler Biehl solo home run.

Aubrey Evans tied the game on a two-run blast off Arizona starter Miranda Stoddard. The Knights didn’t waver after Arizona retook the lead in the bottom half of the third inning on a Devyn Netz home run. Evans drove in Sierra Humphreys, who beat a throw home by Regan Shockey after the center fielder made an error that allowed Humphreys to score from first on a single.

UCF took the lead in the fifth. Ashleigh Griffin blasted her second home run of the weekend, a two-run bomb off of Netz to put the Knights up two.

Arizona threatened in the sixth, loading the bases with one out. However, Kaitlyn Felton limited the Wildcats to one run after back-to-back groundouts. Felton, who improved to 9-0 on the season, closed the door in the seventh. She went 3.1 innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run.

Madison Simon was also a huge part in the Knights win. She went 4-for-4 at the plate. Simon also robbed Dakota Kennedy of a home run when the game was tied in the fourth inning.
