Tyler Reddick opens up about regular season championship battle ahead of Michigan race

Right now, Tyler Reddick is in the middle of a regular-season championship battle. He trails Kyle Larson by only five points. That championship comes with 15 bonus points for the NASCAR Playoffs.

Tyler Reddick is having the best stretch of his entire Cup Series career right now. In the last ten races, he has finished in the top-10 nine times, six of which were top-5 finishes. He is on a streak of six straight that includes a pole award at Indy and most laps led at Indy and Sonoma.

In a tight battle with Larson, Chase Elliott, and Denny Hamlin, this is a big moment for Reddick. Winning the regular season could help propel him to a championship.

“It’s fun. It’s fun knowing that, we’re racing everybody out there, but you know, I feel like… I don’t know what their approaches are necessarily but trying to be smart about it, stay aggressive, earn points, but keep in mind that there’s a balance,” Reddick told Frontstretch.com. “We want to go out there and win races, but we don’t want to throw away a second or third-place finish, kinda like I did earlier in the year. With racing against Buescher, you know, I made my mistake there. Just trying to keep that in mind.

“So, I think it’s been good for me. In my past, in NASCAR I feel like when points have mattered I’ve been buried in the standings and just only worried about wins. It’s been good for me as a driver. So, it’s really cool that we’ve climbed out of the hole that we were in to start this year and we’re now up there battling with those guys.”

Tyler Reddick has three races to pass Kyle Larson in points. He has to hope that he can also hold off Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin. Elliott is only one point back of Reddick and Hamlin is 15 points back from Elliott. So all four are within a 21-point window.

With three races left in the NASCAR Cup Series season, it’s getting to the nitty gritty. All four drivers in contention are very talented. Right now, Reddick is the one riding the hot streak. Can he keep it going long enough to clinch the regular season?

Reddick and Hamlin have good track position. Due to the qualifying session being rained out, the lineup was set by the metric. Hamlin on pole, Reddick P2. Will either of them walk away with the win on Sunday?
