Ty Jackson, nation’s No. 1 ranked LB, talks recent Michigan offer, Brian Jean-Mary

New Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary isn’t afraid to go after the best recruits in the Southeast.

Jean-Mary recently dipped into the state of Florida and extended an offer to Loxahatchee (Fla.) Seminole Ridge prospect Ty Jackson, the No. 1 ranked linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class, per On3.

“I can’t say too much since I haven’t been on campus, but I’ve been reaching out to the staff and building connections,” Jackson said. “We have discussed a visit. We’ve been communicating a lot. It’s been good.”

Jean-Mary is originally from Florida and is connecting with Jackson on a personal level.

While Michigan offered after Jackson released his Top 10, Jean-Mary’s push has the Wolverines in contention.

“I talk to Coach BJ a lot,” Jackson said. “We’ve been communicating. We have a great relationship. He said I would be a great fit there. I can come in and develop and have an opportunity to start.”

Jackson was impressed with Michigan’s run to the national championship last season and said the opportunity to fill the void left behind by players like star linebacker Junior Colson is enticing.

“A lot of people left, so there is an opportunity there,” Jackson said. “That’s how I look at it and see it.”

Jackson plans to take his time with the process, which is a positive for Michigan as it looks to build some momentum in this race.

“I’ll be committing after the season,” Jackson said. “That’s the goal. Just finding the right spot for me. Best opportunity on and off the field. Not just playing early but developing, also.”

Jackson has scheduled official visits to Penn State (May 31-June 1), Georgia (June 7-8), Florida State (June 14-15), and Tennessee (June 21-22).

At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Jackson is ranked as the No. 1 linebacker and No. 20 overall prospect nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit in the state of Florida this cycle.

During his first three seasons of high school football, Jackson has recorded 378 tackles, along with 15 tackles for a loss, six sacks, five forced fumbles, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Penn State currently has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 28.4 percent chance of landing him. Florida State is in second place with an 18.8 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan has five commits in its 2025 recruiting class — Top 100 Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick EDGE Nate Marshall, On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, four-star Birmingham (Mich.) Groves offensive lineman Avery Gach and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens.
