Tuesday’s Dawg Biscuits: Updates on 2025 prospects Lionel Prudhomme, Ladarian Clardy and Ferzell Shepard

Step inside for the latest on several 2025 prospects on Mississippi State’s radar in football along with transfer targets:

First Biscuit – Starting the day with basketball and transfer portal, on Monday I talked to a source regarding former Vanderbilt transfer center/forward Ven-Allen Lubin, who has two years of remaining eligibility. Last week Lubin officially visited North Carolina and Mississippi State and per my source, he won’t be taking any more official visits. North Carolina is still in contact with Lubin but they also have former Kentucky transfer Ugonna Onyenso and former Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins ahead of Lubin on their board, and the Tar Heels are waiting to see what happens with those two transfers and their NBA Draft entries (both are likely to remove their names from the draft soon). As noted, talks between Mississippi State and Lubin and per my source, Lubin is planning to make his college decision “in the next couple of days”.

Second Biscuit – Staying with the basketball transfer portal, on Monday I talked with former Rhode Island transfer center and Mississippi State commitment Jeremy Foumena, who has three years of remaining eligibility. After initially committing to High Point, Foumena said things got serious with Mississippi State a couple of weeks ago and that’s when he started talking to Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans and assistant coach George Brooks on a daily basis. He talked well of those relationships and this offseason, he said most of his focus has been on his 3 point shooting and his game around the rim. He added that he also has to be versatile on defense and realizes Jans puts an emphasis on defense. Now headed to the SEC, Foumena said he looks forward to that challenge and believes he has the talent to compete in the SEC on a regular basis.

Third Biscuit – Moving to football recruiting and catching back up with 2025 safety prospect Ladarian Clardy of Escambia (Fla.) High School, he has been on a roll lately in recruiting and has collected recent offers from instate Power 5 programs Miami, Florida and Florida State. Clardy has already taken an official visit to Washington and has official visits set for Vanderbilt, UCF and Mississippi State in June. He added that he also wants to officially visit Georgia and Ole Miss and possibly others (I imagine he visits Miami, Florida and Florida State at some point, too). He noted again of his close relationship with State safeties coach Matt Barnes and how the whole staff is treating him as a priority. Early on, Clardy had State and Ole Miss atop his favorites’ list but is now keeping an open mind on favorites, which I imagine is due to his recent instate offers.

Fourth Biscuit – On Monday I did some checking on 2025 offensive lineman and On3 three-star prospect Lionel Prudhomme of Captain Shreve (La.) High School. Prudhomme holds Power 5 offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Missouri and Texas Tech among others and he unofficially visited Mississippi State twice during the spring period. Prudhomme is expected to return to Starkville this summer and that return visit will likely be an official visit. So far, Prudhomme has not scheduled all of his summer official visits but I suspect he will take in multiple official visits in the month of June. I still like where State stands with Prudhomme, mainly due to his relationship with offensive line coach Cody Kennedy. I also get the vibe that Missouri and Texas Tech may be the biggest competition for State with Prudhomme at this point.

And for the gravy on top – And lastly on Monday, I talked to a source close to 2025 receiver and On3 three-star prospect Ferzell Shepard of Scotlandville (La.) Magnet. Shepard is starting to pick up steam this spring on the recruiting trail and after collecting a Power 5 offer from Mississippi State last month, he added a Baylor offer last week. Shepard is set to officially visit Mississippi State on June 21-23 and at last check, he said that was the only official visit he has scheduled for this summer (but that could very well change with more offers). Shepard has told me often he wants to make his college decision this summer and I feel like State has the momentum with Shepard right now. But as mentioned, those spots for high school receivers are going to be tight and they have several talented receivers on that board.
