Troy transfer guard Tayton Conerway commits to Indiana

Indiana basketball has added one of the most experienced guards in the transfer portal. Troy transfer Tayton Conerway announced his commitment to the Hoosiers on Wednesday, a few days after he visited Bloomington.

The 6-foot-3, 186-pound guard is currently the No. 82 ranked overall player in the portal, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. After spending three years at the junior college level and the past two seasons at Troy, Conerway has one year of eligibility remaining.

A native of Burleson, Texas, Conerway started 34 games this past season for the Trojans. He averaged 14.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game, earning Sun Belt Player of the Year honors.

Conerway shot 47.1 percent from the field and 27.0 percent from 3-point range on 4.0 attempts per game last season. Over his two seasons at Troy, he shot 29.2 percent from beyond the arc.

While he struggled at times with turnovers—averaging 2.7 per game—Conerway still posted a 1.75 assist-to-turnover ratio and an assist rate of 39 percent.

Known as a tough, physical guard, Conerway has ranked among the nation’s leaders in steals the past two seasons. He finished second in steal percentage at 5.8 percent during the 2023–24 season and third at 5.6 percent during the 2024–25 season.

Conerway scored in double figures in all but seven games this past season, including 22 of the final 23 contests.

His top performance came in mid-January against Arkansas State, when he scored a season-high 32 points to go along with four rebounds and seven assists. He shot 8-of-12 from the field, 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 12-of-15 from the free-throw line in that game.

In Troy’s Round of 64 loss in the NCAA Tournament to Kentucky, Conerway scored 12 points, pulled down four rebounds and dished out four assists. He went 5-of-12 from the field and 1-of-7 beyond the 3-point arc.

Conerway is the sixth player to commit to new head coach Darian DeVries and the Hoosiers this offseason. He joins DePaul transfer guard Conor Enright, West Virginia transfer forward Tucker DeVries, Davidson transfer forward Reed Bailey and Sam Houston State transfer guard Lamar Wilkerson, who committed on Tuesday — and North Florida wing Jasai Miles who committed on Wednesday.
