Triple Eight reaffirms Shane van Gisbergen’s Supercars status

While Shane van Gisbergen gets ready for his double-duty weekend in Indianapolis, his Supercars team released a statement on the driver. Of course, SVG is getting another taste of NASCAR this weekend as he tackles the Truck Series on the IRP oval and then the Indy Road Course in the Cup Series.
It is no secret at this point that Shane van Gisbergen is going to be racing NASCAR in 2024. Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal reported on Thursday night that SVG is finalizing a deal with Trackhouse Racing for next season in a mixed schedule.
Expect to see him in that Niece Motorsports No. 41 truck more often next year, possibly in a Kaulig Racing car in the Xfinity Series, and definitely with Trackhouse in the Cup Series.
However, this situation has put Supercars team Triple Eight into a tough position. Rumors and reporting from V8Sleuth show that Will Brown will move from Erebus Motorsport and replace SVG for Triple Eight.
However, for now, this is what the team has to say about Shane van Gisbergen’s status on their team.
“Shane is a contracted driver with Triple Eight until advised otherwise,” Triple Eight said in a statement, via V8Slueth. “If this changes, it will be communicated by the team. We will be making no further comment.”
Van Gisbergen came into NASCAR for the Chicago Street Race and was elite. He won the race and impressed some future NASCAR Hall of Famers in the process. He also revived the road course ringer trope.
This weekend, Shane van Gisbergen is the favorite in many minds. But he will be joined by an international all-star lineup at Indy.
Shane van Gisbergen headlines international field at Indy
While there are issues with the Next Gen car that NASCAR is actively seeking to fix, there is no doubt that it has attracted a diverse variety of drivers. Of course, Trackhouse is seen as the international organization in the sport. After all, it is owned by Mr. Worldwide, Pitbull.
However, this weekend there will be seven countries represented on the Indy Road Course. NASCAR is quite proud of the talent of these drivers. Altogether there are 39 series championships among the field from the NASCAR Truck Series to IMSA, Supercars, WEC, and Formula 1.
Shane van Gisbergen will be joined by fellow Supercars driver Brodie Kostecki. SVG from New Zealand, Kostecki an Aussie. Mike Rockenfeller will fill in for the 42 car after Noah Gragson’s departure from LEGACY Motor Club. He represents Germany. Jenson Button, the Brit, Kamui Kobayashi, from Japan. Of course, Daniel Suárez, the series full-timer and road course winner, represents Mexico.
This field is talented and this road course, while not impressive in the past, may put on a good show. Is SVG destined for another win in just his second Cup Series race?
