Travis Vokolek catches first NFL touchdown pass with Ravens
Former Nebraska tight end Travis Vokolek caught his first NFL touchdown pass during the Baltimore Ravens preseason game Monday night versus the Washington Commanders on ESPN.
The touchdown came in the third quarter of the game on a 17-yard completion from Anthony Brown. The Ravens took a 21-17 lead following the touchdown.
He added a second touchdown later in the game. It came in the fourth quarter and was on a six-yard pass from Brown.
During the Ravens first preseason game, Vokolek had two catches for 30 years. One catch went for 23 yards and the other went for seven yards.
Vokolek had four touchdowns in his college football career, including two last season with the Cornhuskers.
Travis Vokolek was signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent
Travis Vokolek went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent.
Heading into the draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein thought Vokolek had potential to be an NFL player.
“Vokolek always seems to be in a big hurry, which causes him to play without the technique and body control he needs to maintain consistency at the point of attack,” Zierlein said in his scouting report. “He has great size but lacks the wingspan and hand strength to impose that size as a block-sustainer. Vokolek is a below-average receiving threat, so he will need to improve his technique and his performance as a run blocker to win a spot as an in-line option off the bench or on a practice squad.”
Baltimore Ravens are playing without Marlon Humphrey
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey did not play in the preseason game after he underwent surgery for a foot injury last week.
Head coach John Harbaugh addressed the injury with the media Friday, saying the procedure went well.
“The good thing about the surgery just to give you a little background, he could’ve definitely played with it the way it was, but you do risk it getting worse. With the surgery that he got, it’s taken care of,” Harbaugh said. “So when he comes back, he won’t have to be concerned for the rest of the season. And it was Marlon’s decision, and that’s why he decided to go ahead and get that done.”
Humphrey has made three Pro Bowls over the past four season for the Ravens, including first-team All-Pro honors during the 2019 season.
