Travis Hunter’s father shares heartfelt message for son after being picked in 2025 NFL Draft
Thursday was the culmination of an incredible journey for Travis Hunter and his family. The former Colorado two-way star didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, as the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him with the No. 2 overall pick.
The night was even more special for Hunter, as his father — Travis Hunter Sr. — who wasn’t able to attend when he accepted his Heisman Trophy, joined him in Green Bay. He was placed on a three-year period of probation and ordered to complete the first year under home confinement in December, but was granted permission by the courts to be there in-person for the moment.
As the gravity of the situation sunk in for Hunter, he was able to enjoy a heartfelt video from his father. The NFL posted it on their social media account, with the No. 2 overall pick’s reaction included. Check it out below.
“Hey Trav. I wanted to congratulate you on the journey that you’ve been on, and I always knew you would be here, because I’ve never once seen you miss practice since you was four years old. I love that drive about you. Now, the big day done came, and I don’t know if I’m gonna cry or not, but you shocked me with this one, being the top five pick,” Hunter Sr. stated. “But I love you, and I’m happy I get to spend this time with you.”
Of course, the video meant the world to Hunter. He took some time afterwards to elaborate on how happy he was to have his father in Green Bay for the special occasion, shining a light on how bright their future will be together in Jacksonville.
“Oh, that was tough. It meant a lot to have my dad here. He wasn’t able to come to the Heisman. So, you know, it’s a blessing, you know, to be able to have him here, and see me, you know, walk the stage and, you know, do my thing, do my dance and have fun,” Hunter responded. “You know, it’s always been my dream. Like I said, since four, I’ve never missed a practice. I’m always at practice. Always on time. You know, I’m just excited to play football. So, seeing him you know make that video, it means a lot to me, but I’ve still got more work to do.
“From him, a little message that he’s just, you know, put across the board is you’re going to be coached hard. I understand what hard coaching is, and where it gets you. That’s a blessing. We’ve got more to do, got more to prove and I know you’re going to be at every game, so let’s keep going.”
One thing about Travis Hunter is he’s going to work his tail off, and that’s not going to change now that he’s in the NFL. The Jaguars have a star on their hands, and that’s why they traded multiple premium picks to get him. Travis Hunter Sr. is ready to see his son shine in Jacksonville.
