Travis Hunter Sr. receives court permission to travel to Green Bay for NFL Draft, leave home confinement

Travis Hunter Sr. receives court permission to travel to Green Bay for NFL Draft, leave home confinement

Travis Hunter’s father — Travis Hunter Sr. — wasn’t able to attend when he accepted his Heisman Trophy, but he’ll be there for the 2025 NFL Draft. The two-way star’s father was granted permission by the courts recently to travel to Green Bay, according to court documents per Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post.

“Travis Hunter Sr. was granted permission by the courts recently to travel to Green Bay for the NFL Draft,” D’Angelo reported. “Hunter Sr., who lives in Boynton Beach where his son was raised, is scheduled to leave West Palm Beach the day before the draft and ordered to return Friday, the day following the draft, according to court documents.

“Hunter Sr., 39, was sentenced to 90 days in late September 2024 stemming from a 2023 arrest on gun and drug charges. He was released from the Palm Beach County West Detention Center in Belle Glade nine days before the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York but was unable to attend. He was placed on a three-year period of probation and ordered to complete the first year under home confinement.”

D’Angelo added that Hunter Sr. will be restricted to the grounds of the hotel other than attending the draft, which will be held at Lambeau Field. He was also required to submit a full travel itinerary and schedule to his community control officer.

Regardless of all the hoops Hunter Sr. will have to jump through, it’ll be an incredible moment seeing his son’s lifelong dream of playing professional football finally come true. He likely won’t have to wait long to hear his name either, as many pundits believe the former Colorado star will be either the second or third pick come Thursday.

Having his father in Green Bay will mean the world to Hunter, as well. He spoke on what it was like missing pops at the Heisman Ceremony back in December, with a poignant line in his acceptance speech.

“I want to say something to my father,” Hunter said, accepting the prestigious award. “He’s not here and wasn’t able to make it but I know you’re watching on TV. Dad, I love you. For all the stuff you went through man … Now look at your oldest son. I did it for you, man.

“”All the times that you didn’t get to see me, or the times you did come to see my games. From not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me. That means so much to me. I know you wanted to be here and you can’t, but trust me, I got you. I’m bringing the trophy home. I love you.”

The 2025 NFL Draft will air live on ESPN, ABC and NFL Network on Thursday. It all gets started at 8 p.m. ET, but Travis Hunter might have a new home by 9:00 p.m. if all goes according to plan.
