Transfer Portal Intel: AJ Storr intel; Kansas, Indiana momentum; NC State making a push, and more
The 2023-24 college basketball season has come to an end. This means the college basketball transfer portal is going full steam ahead. The transfer portal opened on March 18 for any player in college basketball to enter without penalty. That started the 45-day window that the portal would remain open. As of this writing, over 1,700 players have already submitted their paperwork to the NCAA.
Here is the latest intel on the recruitment of some of the top players who have entered the college basketball transfer portal.
G Rylan Griffen, Alabama
INTEL: Last week I wrote that Texas was a school I heard to watch when Rylan Griffen entered the Transfer Portal. As I have continued to gather more intel, Kansas is a school that I am told has made a hard push. Griffen averaged 11.2 points and shot 39.2 percent from three this season. The 6-foot-5 guard made a strong push in the NCAA Tournament scoring between 8 and 19 points helping lead the Crimson Tide to the Final Four. With the intel I have gathered I have placed an RPM for Griffen to ultimately choose Kansas.
C Oumar Ballo, Arizona
INTEL: Oumar Ballo entered the Transfer Portal and immediately became a top-five player for this cycle. The 7-foot-0 center, originally from Mali, averaged a double-double last season at Arizona, 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. On3’s Joe Tipton reported that the grad transfer has set three official visits, Indiana, Louisville, and Kansas State. I am also told that he will visit Arkansas. A source close to the recruitment tells me he is watching Indiana and Arkansas closely here. The source says they would currently give momentum to Indiana coming off this weekend’s visit. Continue to stay tuned here with the visits.
G AJ Storr, Wisconsin
INTEL: AJ Storr made quite the splash as he entered the Transfer Portal. Schools like Kansas, Texas, Ole Miss, and Illinois were all reported early suitors for the Illinois native. One piece to watch with Storr, who averaged 16.8 points at Wisconsin last season, is the NBA Draft. I am told that he will go through the process with serious intentions of staying in. With that said, if he does not get the feedback he wants, Storr, who started his college career at St. John’s, could come back to school. A school I continue to hear concerning Storr, if he comes back to college, is Kansas. While Illinois had the early buzz, I am told Kansas has done a good job with him. Continue to pay attention to timelines here.
G Jamarii Thomas, Norfolk State
INTEL: Jamarii Thomas is the reigning MEAC Player of the Year after averaging 16.9 points and 3.8 assists. A number of schools reached out to Thomas after entering the transfer portal and the 6-foot-1 guard has set his first official visit. The Greensboro, North Carolina native will visit Cal on April 20-21.
G Sencire Harris & F Amani Hansberry, Illinois
INTEL: Sencire Harris entered the Transfer Portal early Monday morning and Amani Hansberry on Tuesday afternoon. This came shortly after former Illinois assistant coach Chester Frazier announced he would be moving to West Virginia to be an assistant. Frazier was Harris and Hansberry’s lead recruiter at Illinois. This recruitment is very new, so continue to watch which schools make contact and if timelines are set.
G Freddie Dilione, Tennessee
INTEL: Immediately upon Freddie Dilione entering the Transfer Portal, a source told me to watch for Louisville here. Two other programs to jump into the mix a source tells me are NC State and Penn State. Dilione is on a visit to NC State on Tuesday I am told. A source suggested that I pay close attention to this visit to Raleigh. With Dilione, continue to watch his timeline, there are some moving pieces with him.
