Transfer portal closing soon… five available names that make sense for Michigan

The spring transfer portal window is closing tomorrow. Teams can still add players out of the portal, but players will no longer be able to enter.

Here are five available players who make sense for Michigan.

WR Ted Hurst, Georgia State

Michigan still needs help at the wide receiver position. The Wolverines invested a ton of money into new quarterback Bryce Underwood, the former No. 1 overall recruit nationally. It would be wise for U-M to surround their investment with weapons, especially as a true freshman starter. Hurst recently entered the portal and is quickly becoming one of the hottest players on the market, with interest from Miami, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others. Hurst is a grad transfer with one year of eligibility, so admissions wouldn’t be an issue. The 6-foot-3, 1805-pounder logged 56 receptions for 961 yards and and nine touchdowns at Georgia State last season.

WR Cortez Braham, Nevada

Like Hurst, Braham is a grad transfer and has just one year of eligibility remaining, which, again, means admissions shouldn’t be an issue. Braham is the third best available wide receiver in the portal, per On3, and Michigan has put out some feelers through his agency. There has been no significant movement to report just yet, but Braham would definitely be a welcomed addition to the wide receiver room. The 6-foot-2, 197-pounder recorded 56 receptions for 724 yards and four touchdowns at Nevada last season.

OT Tim Anderson & Bob Anderson, Ferris State

I’m just going to include the Anderson brothers as a duo on this list. Michigan obviously needs help along the offensive line, and the Anderson brother can provide depth and compete for starting jobs. Michigan already landed one Ferris State offensive lineman out of the portal in Lawrence Hattar and could look to the Anderson brothers to help solve their tackle woes. Both siblings were All-Americans and part of one of the most dominant Division II offensive lines in recent memory. The ‘nasty boys’ are both Michigan natives.

OT Jaylin Caldwell, Grand Valley State

There aren’t a lot of true tackle options in the portal, which is unfortunate for Michigan. The Wolverines could take a chance on a guy like Caldwell. At 6-foot-7, 330 pounds, Caldwell has a really intriguing frame with two years of eligibility remaining. Some time in the U-M strength and conditioning program could certainly do wonders for him. Caldwell impressed at the Division II level and, like the Anderson brothers, is looking to make a significant jump. The Chicago native would have plenty of interest in Michigan if it pushes.

CB Emmanuel Karnley, Miami

Michigan was a finalist for Karnley when he was in the transfer portal back in the winter. In fact, Karnley had a great visit to Michigan and quickly built up a strong relationship with secondary coach LaMar Morgan. Miami’s NIL deal appears to have gone sour, which is why Karnley is back in the portal. Michigan has put out feelers for defensive backs in recent weeks and could revisit Karnley. Auburn is set to host him for a visit this weekend. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
