Tracking the RPM: Leading percentages for remaining Florida Gators targets

Tracking the RPM: Leading percentages for remaining Florida Gators targets

With 22 prospects in the fold, the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class is already nearly complete,

However, there are still a handful of targets still on the board, and on top of that, these prospects cannot sign until December. That means Florida has to keep its class together throughout the ups and downs of the season while also going in for those still on the market.

In the breakdown below, Gators Online serves up the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine odds for UF’s top uncommitted targets and breaks down where the Gators stand.

LJ McCray
Position: Defensive lineman
Location/School: Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 51 prospect | No. 9 defensive lineman | No. 8 prospect in Florida
RPM Odds: Florida (37%), Georgia (25.2%), Florida State (15.5%) and Miami (10.4%)
GO’s Take: Florida, Georgia and FSU are the schools generating the most momentum right now. McCray plans to make a decision in October though and will be officially visiting the Seminoles earlier that month. That visit could make a lasting impact, but it’s extremely close at the top right now. Florida is right there and will be until the very end. This one is too close to call right now.

Zay Mincey
Position: Safety
Location/School: Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 84 prospect | No. 4 safety | No. 12 prospect in Florida
RPM Odds: Florida (65.5%), Miami (27.9%), Florida State (2.8%)
GO’s Take: Another program to monitor here is Alabama. Nick Saban’s program is expected to receive an in-season official visit, but much of the attention is on the Gators and Hurricanes. I submitted a prediction for UF during the spring and am still giving the slight edge to the SEC program, although Mincey plans to take his recruitment until the end. It will be interesting to see how each team’s season success factors into his recruitment. Florida is recruiting him to play cornerback, but Mincey is very versatile in the secondary.

Jordan Seaton
Position: Offensive Tackle
Location/School: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 41 prospect | No. 2 offensive tackle | No. 6 prospect in Florida
RPM Odds: Ohio State (64.3%), Florida (12.2%), Alabama (3%) and Oklahoma (2.5%).
GO’s Take: Florida is not planning to host any in-season official visitors…unless your name is Jordan Seaton. They are making an exception for him and that shows how much of a priority he is despite already having four offensive line commits. Seaton is visiting for the Tennessee game on Sept. 16 and expected to take other OVs too, so this recruitment is still very much fluid. Florida is definitely a major contender though, and if you guys remember, we previously included Seaton in our mock recruiting class. LSU, Oregon and South Carolina are other programs to monitor that could receive official visits.

Jamari Howard
Position: Cornerback
Location/School: Miami Norland
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 124 prospect | No. 15 cornerback | No. 20 prospect in Florida
RPM Odds: Florida State (30.8%), Michigan State (21.6%), Rutgers (14%), Florida (7.9%) and Miami (7.9%)
GO’s Take: A former Michigan State commit, Howard recently narrowed his focus to Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Rutgers and Penn State. As for the Gators, however, it was a major stinger when Howard canceled his visit in late July in favor of the Seminoles. He spent multiple days in Tallahassee that weekend as well. The Seminoles were the childhood favorite program and that is who I am favoring right now. Outside of that, there is plenty of suspense right now. UF needs to secure a game visit and then an official visit closer to signing day. The Gators definitely have some catching up to do.

Kam Mikell
Position: Cornerback
Location/School: Statesboro (Ga.) High
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 129 prospect | No. 17 cornerback | No. 18 prospect in Georgia
RPM Odds: Georgia (89.2%), South Carolina (3.3%), Georgia Tech (2.2%) and Kentucky (1.9%)
GO’s Take: Mikell is ranked as a cornerback and many schools are recruiting him to play defense. The Gators, however, are courting him to play wide receiver. He took an unofficial visit to Gainesville over the summer and hopes to return for an official visit. That would more than likely take place after the season though. UF was on the outside looking in for much of Mikell’s recruitment but has been quietly making an impression behind the scenes. We will see where it goes. UGA, Georgia Tech and South Carolina have already received official visits, while Colorado, Kentucky and Tennessee are also on the radar..
