Tracking Oregon’s true freshmen through Week 2 of 2023 season

Oregon leaned heavily on several true freshmen during its thrilling Week 2 road win over Texas Tech.

In total, eight of the Ducks’ true freshman saw playing time during their 38-30 win over the Red Raiders — including four who played double-digit snaps.

After the game, head coach Dan Lanning was asked about his willingness to lean on several players from his vaunted 2023 recruiting class.

“If you’re good enough, you’re old enough — I’ve said it for a year now,” Lanning said. “Last year, it didn’t really necessarily matter, because there weren’t as many guys that were good enough, right? We have guys that are good enough to play for us. And they’re old enough to go play for us. I don’t care how old you are. If you can go make an impact in the game — which those young players can — that’s when we’re getting better. We’re developing within our program. We’re developing young players to go make an impact in this game.”
