Touted defensive lineman Iose Epenesa en route to Penn State for official visit
Edwardsville (Ill.) High blue-chip edge rusher Iose Epenesa is en route to Penn State on Friday morning for his official visit.
“Iose loves their defense and likes Coach Franklin,” Epenesa’s father Eppy said.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Epenesa has the Nittany Lions in his Top 10 alongside Oregon, Illinois, Utah, Michigan, Miami, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky and Texas.
“His uncle EJ Esau is a super diehard Penn State fan,” the elder Epenesa said. “He told Iose to give Penn State a chance and he’s been telling me and Iose all about Penn State.”
Epenesa likes Penn State’s track record
Penn State currently has the nation’s No. 16 recruiting class. The younger Epenesa sees a place where he could blossom as a player.
“Their production of defensive ends and defensive line,” Eppy said of what catches his son’s eye.
Epenesa’s oldest brother AJ starred at Iowa and is set to begin his fifth season with the Buffalo Bills.
“(Iose) likes all the defensive linemen from Penn State that are teammates and friends of his older brother AJ,” Epenesa said.
The rest of the itinerary for Epenesa
Following this trip Epenesa will visit Iowa on June 1, Iowa on June 8, Utah on June 15 and Miami on June 22.
“Just what we can fit in on our family summer schedule from his Top 10,” Eppy said.
The On3 Industry ranks Epenesa as the nation’s No. 5 edge and No. 49 prospect overall.
