Top schools beginning to emerge for Penn State WR target Connor Salmin

Penn State hosted Northern Virginia wide receiver Connor Salmin and his family for the fifth time this past Saturday. Since his first visit in Nov. 2023, Salmin has taken in two games at Beaver Stadium. He also attended a spring practice last April, then returned to campus in July to attend both the Whiteout Camp and the Lasch Bash Barbecue.

While the Lasch Bash is similar to a typical junior day, Salmin said he still learned a few things from the event.

“The visit was awesome,” Salmin said. “It was my first junior day at Penn State, so I learned some things about how Coach [Marques] Hagans runs his wide receiver room, some things about academics and I got my first campus tour. It was great to get back and see all the recruiting staff and the coaches.”

With coaches now allowed to meet with high school juniors both at their school and at their homes in January, last month was a busy one for Salmin and his family. Penn State met with him twice, as Hagans did an in-home visit on Jan. 22. That was followed by both James Franklin and Anthony Poindexter visiting him at The Bullis School on Jan. 27.

“After spending time with Coach Hagans and Coach Franklin last week, it was nice to sit down with them again to go over some questions we had,” Salmin said. “The things that me and my family like about Penn State are that they are strong in both football and academics and that we have good relationships with the coaches. They seem excited about how I could contribute to their offense.”

Salmin earned a few new offers in January, notably from Boston College and Pitt, but he’s already visited 14 different schools dating back to June 2023. He saw games at nine schools this past fall, including trips to Clemson, Notre Dame and Penn State in November. That was followed by junior day visits to South Bend and State College the past two weekends, with another visit scheduled to Clemson for the beginning of March.

“Right now, Clemson, Notre Dame and Penn State are standing out as the top schools in my recruitment,” Salmin admitted. “There are also several schools that are recruiting me that I’m not ready to take off of my list. I have the Clemson junior day scheduled for March 8th, and I will try to get to some spring practices if my track schedule allows.”
