Top performers from Texas’ first Fall scrimmage

Top performers from Texas’ first Fall scrimmage

Less than three weeks away from the opener we’ll take a different angle to look at the team’s first scrimmage during August camp.

Perhaps most importantly, there were no significant injuries. You’ll remember on this weekend last year Texas lost both Isaiah Neyor and Junior Angilau for the season.

We’ll cap our scrimmage info tomorrow morning but for now, here’s how differing sources saw the five best performers.

Source No. 1

WR AD Mitchell: No surprise. He’s mentioned virtually every practice even if we don’t ask about him.

DT Byron Murphy: Mr. Consistency.

RB CJ Baxter: Had a good run to the outside and showed well in short yardage. Jonathon Brooks also gained mention.

OT Kelvin Banks: Also Mr. Consistency.

LB Anthony Hill/CB Malik Muhammad: Good problem to have. The source couldn’t decide between the two true freshmen. Muhammad had an interception and was part of a forced fumble. Hill was active and physical.

Source No. 2

DT Byron Murphy

WR AD Mitchell

OT Kelvin Banks

OG Neto Umeozulu: Surprise inclusion for the second-year player. We’ll monitor him more closely going forward.

RB Keilan Robinson: Had a long touchdown run on 4th and 1. He was also an honorable mention from Source No. 3.

Source No. 3

CB Malik Muhammad: Advanced understanding of the game.

QB Arch Manning: It was more than just his long run, Manning was decisive with his actions.

WR AD Mitchell

DT Byron Murphy

DT Alfred Collins: Played both defensive tackle and defensive end and looked good doing it.

It’s unanimous, AD Mitchell and Byron Murphy are consistently good. I’m sure source No. 3 would agree on Kelvin Banks if he focused on the O-line more.

You’ll notice the omission of Quinn Ewers. He had a good, solid day. There’s nothing to worry about there.

One final note. Texas has two kickers. Bert Auburn and Will Stone can get it done.
