Top Dawg Clinic Biscuits: Updates on 2025 prospects Trent Sellers, Caleb Cunningham and Tyler Lockhart

Top Dawg Clinic Biscuits: Updates on 2025 prospects Trent Sellers, Caleb Cunningham and Tyler Lockhart

First Biscuit – As noted from the start, it is a different-looking scene this summer with Mississippi State camps. The majority of campers at Top Dawg Clinic tonight at Davis Wade Stadium were underclassmen with just a few 2025 prospects here and there. I talked to Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby about all of the underclassmen at Top Dawg Clinic and he said that’s been the norm at Oklahoma during his previous seasons in the Big 12. Lebby said they rarely had rising seniors at those summer camp sessions. So that is something to keep in mind as we move forward with the rest of this month’s camp schedule and the next camp session will be this Saturday.

Second Biscuit – Speaking of the 2025 prospects, one offensive lineman that caught my attention was Josiah Clemons of Clinton Christian School. He measured in at 6-foot-7 and 317 pounds and really moved well at that size and obviously, he has a good reach, too. Clemons has visited State before this spring and has been on the radar of State offensive line coach Cody Kennedy. So far Clemons is just receiving Division 1 interest but I expect him to add those Division 1 offers after more summer camps. I could definitely see Mississippi State offering Clemons sooner than later, and we will see how those meetings go in the future with the staff about Clemons.

Third Biscuit – Staying with the Class of 2025, one of the top defensive linemen I watched today was On3 three-star prospect Trent Sellers of Faith (Ala.) Academy. He showed good length in drills and drew a lot of compliments from defensive line coach David Turner during drills. Sellers has visited State before this spring and he has upcoming camps to Ole Miss and Auburn over the next two weekends. Sellers also has official visits set for Arkansas and Mississippi State (June 14-16) for the month of June, and he said Thursday was a great experience to learn more about technique from Turner. We will talk more later in the week but I don’t get the vibe that Sellers is wanting to make his college decision anytime soon.

Fourth Biscuit – Moving to the Class of 2026 for a minute, one of the top offensive prospects at Top Dawg Clinic was 2026 offensive tackle Grant Kitchens of Nanih Waiya. Recruiting fans are becoming familiar with Kitchens and he has taken in several visits to Starkville over the past few months. He talked well of his time with offensive line coach Cody Kennedy in camp drills and Kitchens has several more camps to attend this summer, including an Ole Miss camp this weekend. So far, his lone offer is Mississippi State but he is starting to draw new interest from Georgia and Clemson among others. So it is likely just a matter of time before Kitchens starts adding to his list of Division 1 offers.

Fifth Biscuit – Back to the Class of 2025, another solid defensive lineman at Top Dawg Clinic was On3 three-star prospect Caleb Smith of Parker (Ala.) High School, who holds over 25 offers and that includes several Power 5 offers (received a Mississippi State offer earlier this spring). Smith has visited State four or five times now and he displayed good pass-rush moves during drills and defensive line coach David Turner also complimented Smith often during drills. Smith has official visits set for June to Georgia Tech, Purdue and Oklahoma State, and he is in the process of setting up an official visit to Mississippi State.

Sixth Biscuit – Also with the Class of 2025, Mississippi State had both of its linebacker commits at Top Dawg Clinic on Thursday with On3 composite four-star prospect Tyshun Willis and On3 three-star prospect AJ Rice. I will talk with both more later this week but Rice just got cleared to work out (coming off of labrum surgery). So he was just glad to be playing football again after missing spring practice. Rice and Willis are both physically-gifted linebackers that are similar in playing style. Willis may be a jack linebacker while Rice will likely be a mike linebacker. Willis said he is camping at Ole Miss this weekend and also plans to officially visit Mississippi State, Baylor and Missouri. Despite those visits I get the impression he is locked in with the Bulldogs.

Seventh Biscuit – 2025 Auburn commitment and On3 four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart of Winona High School was also on campus today although he did not participate in camp drills. Lockhart was helping his older brother – 2024 State signee TJ Lockhart – move to campus on Thursday and then he hung out the rest of the day at Top Dawg Clinic. He spent some time with head coach Jeff Lebby and defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler, and was also hanging with 2025 five-star receiver Caleb Cunningham. Lockhart is still taking other official visits this summer and that process begins this weekend at Ole Miss. Lockhart will also take official visits to Auburn and Mississippi State (June 21-23) and as said often, State is still very much in the mix with Lockhart despite his recent commitment to Auburn.

And for the gravy on top – And speaking of 2025 receiver and On3 five-star prospect Caleb Cunningham, he was back in Starkville on Thursday and was just observing Top Dawg Clinic drills. He was with receivers coach Chad Bumphis and head coach Jeff Lebby most of the day and it is easy to see how comfortable he is on campus and around the coaches. Cunningham will officially visit Auburn this weekend followed up by weekend official visits to Florida and Tennessee. He is still trying to decide on whether or not to officially visit Alabama or State on the weekend of June 21-23. While Cunningham is not deciding until December, I still remain confident in State’s chances when it comes to signing Cunningham.
