Top college football programs nationwide are pursuing 2027 QB Brady Edmunds

Top college football programs nationwide are pursuing 2027 QB Brady Edmunds

It is still early in the recruitment of Huntington Beach (Calif.) quarterback Brady Edmunds. Yet he is already on the radar of some of the top programs in college football.

Edmunds holds offers from Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Texas among others. A few of these schools have the attention of the 6-foot-5, 200-pound signal-caller.

“Ohio State, Texas, Michigan and Penn State are up there,” Edmunds told On3. “Notre Dame is another one. Notre Dame is one of the schools I went to in the summer and they didn’t offer me, but they were straight up with me that they want to see film from three of my games. I was the only 2027 quarterback that got pulled up to coach Marcus Freeman’s office to talk to him. I think that means something and hopefully, that offer will come.”

Edmunds is planning to attend games between Georgia and Texas and Nebraska and Ohio State this fall, as well as contests involving Michigan, Notre Dame and USC. These fall trips are going to “play a big role” in his recruitment.

“I want to talk more with these schools about football and their offensive schemes,” Edmunds said. “That’s the next step in the process to my commitment… When I’m ready, I’ll be ready and I think that’ll be sooner rather than later.”

Edmunds knows what he is looking for in a school

This spring was a big one for Edmunds, as he added nearly 10 offers from programs such as Florida State, Oregon and Washington. He then followed it up with a busy summer.

Edmunds went to Texas on June 1 after going to SMU’s recruiting camp on May 31. The talented quarterback then saw Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State.

“You can sense the tradition at the bigger schools,” Edmunds said. “… Everything’s held to a really high standard. You can see why those programs are the ones producing every single year.”

Edmunds is not rushing to make a decision on his college destination. Yet he already knows what is most important to him in a school.

“I’m looking for a school where I’m competing for a national championship every single year,’ Edmunds said. “I’m not focused on a school where I look at the depth chart and say, ‘I’ve got to be on the field at this time.’ When it’s supposed to happen, that’s when it will happen. I feel like I’m going to put myself into a good situation wherever I go with my work ethic and how I approach every single week and every single day.

“The coaching staff matters too. Do they create a family environment or is it all business? I want to be somewhere where I enjoy being every single day. Then, I want to major in business. All these schools have great educational programs. It doesn’t play a huge role, but it’s something I look at. The last thing is if I can see myself there without football. You never know what will happen, so I want to see if I can see myself at a university enjoying my life without football.”

Edmunds breaks down his interest in five early contenders

Michigan: “Coach Kirk Campbell is super smart. Everybody acts at a really high level there. They play top-tier football year in and year out. The Big Ten Conference is shaping up towards the SEC. You have Oregon, USC and Washington now. It’s a dogfight year in and year out. They’re playing top-level competition and they’re going to prepare you for the NFL.”

Notre Dame: “That’s probably the most historic school in the country, not even off football alone. The university itself is really cool. Everyone’s seen the movie, “Rudy,” and my head coach is a huge Notre Dame fan. That would be a really cool offer.”

Ohio State: “Chip Kelly is there and is one of the smartest coaches in college football. Ryan Day is producing year in and year out. I just saw a graphic that says he has the highest winning percentage of all active coaches in college football. They’re playing at a high level. They call it “The Standard” there. They’re the real deal.”

Penn State: “My interest in Penn State comes from the quarterback coach, coach Danny O’Brien. He is one of my favorite coaches that I’ve met in this process so far. He is awesome. He’s a really personable guy and I got along with him right away. I spent two days there and during my trip, we spent three hours in his office watching film and talking football. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a visit so far.”

Texas: “Coach Steve Sarkisian is the main reason for my interest in Texas. When he was at Alabama, he was there at the same time as the quarterback room of Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones and Jalen Hurts. He’s producing quarterbacks at the college level and for the NFL. My dream is to make the NFL, so coach Sark is one of the best coaches who will put you in a situation to be successful in achieving that goal.”
