Top-70 TE Caleb Odom talks final official visit with the Miami Hurricanes: “I think it’ll help Miami getting the last visit”

With Carrollton (Ga.) tight end Caleb Odom’s busy June coming to an end, the Miami Hurricanes will be the last team to welcome the four-star recruit this weekend for his final official visit of the summer as they aim to leave a lasting impression.

“That’ll be it because it’s the last weekend in June and I want to shut down my recruitment once I commit for sure,” Odom told CaneSport. “I think it’ll help Miami getting the last visit. It’ll definitely be on my mind before I make a decision.”

Thus far, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has taken OVs to Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and Texas A&M and has been thoroughly impressed with each visit.

“They’ve all been great,” Odom said. “I’ve got a chance to talk to a lot of coaches, build a lot of relationships, and learn a lot about different schools. I would say right now that the best visit has been to Alabama. They’ve all been great, though.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Odom is the No. 65 player in the nation, the No. 4 tight end, and the No. 10 player in the state of Georgia.

He will be visiting Coral Gables for the third time this year, and he explained how his previous visits as well as his close relationship with Miami head coach Mario Cristobal were the primary reasons behind his decision to take an official visit with the Hurricanes.

“I visited in April and May, and I just really loved the vibe down there,” Odom said. “Coach Cristobal is a really cool coach, and the way they envision using me is really important. I just wanted to get back down and see how Coral Gables is.”

Along with Cristobal, tight ends coach Cody Woodiel and former tight ends coach Stephen Field have built a strong bond with Odom and laid out their plan on how they would use him if he decides to commit to their program.

“I would say I have the strongest relationship with those coaches right now,” Odom said. “They’re telling me that I have the opportunity to get on the field early, which is always good to hear. Also, they’re telling me that they want me to play a little wide receiver, and if I grow into my frame, I would make that change to tight end.”

With his trip days away, Odom hopes to see a side of Miami that he hasn’t yet seen before.

“I want to feel at home and get a family-type vibe,” Odom said. “I want to just talk more with coach Cristobal and Woodiel and sit down and watch more film with them. I want to hang out with my host and see what their day looks like as a Miami football player.”

CaneSport’s take

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Alabama is the current favorite to land Odom’s commitment, but with Miami getting the final official visit, it may bode well for them ahead of his final decision, which he plans to announce in July.

“Just that family and home vibe,” Odom said when asked what he’ll look for the most in a program. “A place where I can see myself getting on the field early with my hard work and stuff like that. Where I have built the best relationship with my head coach and tight end coach. Also, the weight staff, because we’re going to be with those guys most of the time.”
