Top-50 2025 WR sets Miami game visit, receiving major Hurricanes recruiting attention early

West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman 2025 receiver Naeshaun Montgomery has exploded from an unranked recruit to a top-50 prospect this offseason, and Miami is among the teams taking notice.
Montgomery, the No. 47 overall prospect in the On300 and No. 10 receiver in the 2025 class, has heard the most from Miami, Ohio State, LSU and Penn State since Aug. 1, when college staffs became permitted to have direct contact with 2025 recruits. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and receivers coach Kevin Beard have led the charge for the Hurricanes and have made Montgomery feel like a major priority.
“They’re making me feel like I’m their No. 1 recruit and I need to be there,” Montgomery said. “Coach Beard is a great coach, and he knows what he’s doing, so I think I could trust him. I would definitely like to be coached by him.”
Montgomery plans to attend Miami’s Sept. 9 game against Texas A&M as well as games at Georgia, Ohio State and Penn State. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound wideout has reported more than 40 offers, but Cristobal has been a major reason for his continued interest in the Hurricanes and his desire to return to Coral Gables.
Miami has hammered the message of wanting to keep elite South Florida talent home, which resonates with Montgomery, although it won’t be the only factor he considers. Belief in the coaching staff and strong player development will also play factors, but watching the Hurricanes win these next two seasons and progressing offensively will have an effect on how he sees the program.
“It’s a great mindset, keeping the hometown kids at the hometown school,” Montgomery said.
He feels it’s still too early to pick a frontrunner and feels the schools are recruiting him with similar intensity. Montgomery is not certain what will help one school stand out, but he knows he wants to take his time in his recruitment.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Miami as the slight favorite to land Montgomery with an estimated 23.1% chance ahead of Florida and LSU.
CaneSport’s Take
Montgomery was relatively unknown at the start of the 2023 calendar year, but he’s quickly turned into one of the country’s hottest 2025 prospects and a massive priority target for multiple Power Five programs. Montgomery is arguably South Florida’s top receiver in the 2025 class and is slowly turning into a prospect the Hurricanes can’t afford to lose, although we still have some time before the 2025 cycle takes priority.
