Top 40 prospect Kamarion Franklin’s Miami interest rising with official visit locked in

Miami is continuing to climb for Lake Cormorant (Miss.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin, the No. 36 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, who has locked in his official visit to Miami.

Franklin will visit Coral Gables June 2-4 for his first official visit of the year after making a trip to Miami for an unofficial visit in March. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive tackle said his unofficial visit in March catapulted the Hurricanes up his radar, and he said he more or less knew Miami would get an official visit following the trip.

“After the first visit, I definitely had to get back,” Franklin said. “Miami, from the head coach to the position coach to the staff, they’re doing a good job recruiting me. They’re showing why you should have faith in the school and just what the staff has to offer.”

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Tennessee as the slight favorite to land Franklin’s commitment ahead of Ole Miss, Miami and Alabama. The Volunteers are the only other program Franklin has scheduled an official visit to.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, co-defensive line coaches Joe Salave’a and Jason Taylor and tight ends coach Cody Woodiel have lead Franklin’s recruitment and have built a strong relationship with the four-star prospect.

“If it’s not every day (we’re talking), it’s every other day,” Franklin said. “They do a good job of talking and just reaching out. What really stands out are the people inside the building, from the head coach to the position coaches, just the people. I got to watch their practice (in March). I loved how the coaches coach. They definitely separate themselves.”

Franklin plans to announce his top five in the next few weeks but said he’s “still trying to feel out the process.” He isn’t giving a hard timeline for his commitment, telling CaneSport “just whenever the time is right and I feel ready.”

CaneSport’s Take

If 2023 was Miami’s year of the offensive line, 2024 is shaping up to be the year of the defensive line.

The Hurricanes are aggressively pursuing the defensive line inside out, pushing hard for defensive tackles likes Franklin, five stars David Stone and Justin Scott and four star Aydin Breland. The Hurricanes have also gone hard after Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons and four-star EDGE Marquise Lightfoot.

All targets listed are top 100 2024 recruits in the On3 Industry Ranking.
