Top-40 2026 EDGE Jamarion Carlton talks Texas offer, Elite Camp experience

2026 Temple (Texas) EDGE Jamarion Carlton is already one of the top players in the country in the junior class. A top-40 prospect according to On3, Carlton earned a UT offer thanks to his performance at the Texas Elite Camp on Saturday.

“It was the head coach, Coach Sark,” Carlton said about who gave the offer on Saturday. “After the camp, he pulled me to the back and told me he’s been watching me for a while and he wanted to offer me himself in person.”

How much did that offer mean to Carlton?

“It was real cool,” Carlton said. “I ain’t going to lie, I almost teared up a little bit. It’s a great opportunity.”

The 6-foot-4, 238-pounder with an 82-inch wingspan and 35-inch arm length was able to work with Pete Kwiatkowski, the Texas defensive coordinator who oversees the EDGE positions. Carlton learned plenty from the camp and will take those lessons back with him up IH-35 ahead of his junior season with the Wildcats.

“Those conversations were great,” Carlton said. “He was teaching me things that I need to do or work on. He was telling me things I was good at. I feel like we’re going to end up building a great relationship with each other.”

Texas sold Carlton on playing the EDGE positions, but at his current height and weight ahead of his junior campaign, Jack seems like his fit in the Longhorn defense. He had 29 tackles for Temple in 2023 with 4.0 for loss plus 3.0 sacks. He also netted an interception and a pass defended.

UT has been active at Temple High School in recent years, often recruiting some of the best players from the Central Texas program. The attention the Longhorns give to Temple is something that was notable to Carlton.

“I feel like it’s a very good thing,” Carlton said. “It’s a very valuable source, really. Being able to see that we’re getting noticed down there, it’s been real fun. It’s real cool.”

The camp circuit continues for Carlton, who will see Nebraska, Ohio State, and Baylor this summer. He also has drawn interest from Arizona State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. But after his visit to Texas, what are his main takeaways from his time with the Horns?

“The things they said I need to work on,” Carlton said. “I’m going to try my best to get out there and try to work on it more so I can progress and get better at it. I’d also say the experience, cause it was real fun today. I’ll take it to heart.”

The overall experience has Carlton digging what Texas has to offer.

“Top five, maybe higher,” Carlton said of UT’s standing.

Carlton is ranked as the No. 74 overall prospect, the No. 7 EDGE, and the No. 8 player in Texas in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. On3 ranks Carlton higher than any other service as the No. 36 overall prospect, the No. 5 EDGE, and the No. 3 player in Texas.
