Top 20 prospect has South Carolina as finalist
One of the nation’s top basketball prospects in the 2025 class has seen South Carolina in person and says he wants to return to Columbia.
Jamier Jones, rated by the On3 Industry Ranking as the 18th-best prospect in the 2025 class, included the Gamecocks in his recently-released top six.
“They talk to me every week and they came to my first game of the season, so it was good to see him pop out,” Jones told On3’s Joe Tipton. “It’s going good with them, too.”

South Carolina, Providence, Kansas, Houston, LSU, and Ohio State make up the shortlist for the 6-foot-6 forward, who plays his high school ball at Oak Ridge in Florida.
Jones’ timeline will be interesting, since he plans to announce his college choice on Mother’s Day, May 12. He has taken an official visit to Providence as well as unofficials to check out the Gamecocks and LSU.
“South Carolina was good. It was an unofficial visit too,” Jones told Tipon. “That was just to see if I wanted to come back (for an official) and I definitely want to. The coaches were very welcoming too, even the head coach.”
For the 2025 recruiting cycle, Lamont Paris currently holds a pair of verbal commitments. Four-star guard Eli Ellis from Moravian Prep in North Carolina is one. He is joined by in-state forward Hayden Assemian out of Powdersville.
