Top-15 recruit Trey McKenney sets official visit to Michigan
Trey McKenney, the top-ranked player in the 2025 class in Michigan, has scheduled an official visit to Dusty May and the Wolverines. The 6-foot-4 four-star shooting guard out of St. Mary’s High School in Flint will make the trip to Ann Arbor on September 21st.
McKenney, the No. 15 overall recruit in the country according to the On3 Industry Rankings, is also scheduled to visit USC, Michigan State, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Creighton in the coming months. For more on that, read here.
Georgetown, Rutgers, and TCU have already hosted the rising senior on official visits. Michigan State, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois have also hosted him on unofficial visits.
McKenney talks programs involved
In a previous interview with On3, McKenney discussed several of the schools recruiting him.
RUTGERS: “Our relationship has continued to grow since the visit. They came to a lot of my high school stuff. They were there, they were present. It’s been good to have a continually growing relationship with the coaches.”
GEORGETOWN: “Our relationship has been pretty good. When I took my visit there, I got to know the coaches pretty good. And the DC area. They’ve been coming to a lot of my stuff as well, both high school and AAU.”
TCU: “I’ve been talking to Coach (Jamie) Dixon for a minute now. That relationship has continued to grow throughout high school.”
OHIO STATE: “Coach (Jake) Diebler was my main recruiter when Coach (Chris) Holtmann was there. So he re-offered me recently. I’ve been talking with him and Coach (Jamall) Walker. That relationship is still there and it’s strong.”
INDIANA: “I’ve been talking with Coach (Mike) Woodson and Coach Ya (Yasir Rosemond) since I was a freshman. The relationship is good. I’m going to schedule a visit with them soon. Coach Woodson being a player and coaching in the NBA stands out for me. His knowing the ins and the outs of the NBA, being able to develop me as a person and a player on the basketball court is pretty good.”
Breaking down the in-state programs
MICHIGAN STATE: “Coach (Tom) Izzo and Coach TK (Thomas Kelley), I’ve been talking with both of them forever. So that relationship being there and being strong and them being the hometown school and they’re making that pitch to me. It’s pretty good.”
MICHIGAN: “My conversations with Dusty May have been pretty good so far. We came to my school recently to visit me. We just talked about how I would fit into the system and how he coaches and interacts with his players. He talked with me about Johnell Davis, being a big scorer and how he fit into the system. We went over how I fit in his style.”
Scouting Report
“Trey McKenney is a strong-framed guard. He has a sturdily-built base and a plus wingspan. McKenney had great feel for the game. He is an adept, multi-level scorer. He has range that extends beyond the arc, he shoots with consistency and good balance. What he lacks in burst, he makes up for with pace. Has a solid straight-line handle. He is a solid passer and can get his teams into sets. While he might not be the optimal height as an off-guard, McKenney is a tough and sound defender. He uses his strength and his toughness well when guarding the point of attack. He is instinctive in the passing lanes. McKenney is a productive player on both ends of the court, consistently making plays.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
