Top 100 WR Travis Smith talks visit from Alabama
Travis Smith Jr, Top 100 wide receiver from Westlake High School in Atlanta, has a busy official visit schedule ahead which includes a return to Alabama in June. Smith has visited Tuscaloosa twice since Coach Kalen DeBoer was announced the head coach. Alabama has also visited his school multiple times, including this week.
“Coach (JaMarcus) Shephard came by today,” Smith told BOL on Tuesday evening. “It went great, coach is a high energy guy that you won’t forget talking to. He emphasized how much of a priority I am and the impact my skill and size could bring to the offense.
“We mainly talked football, caught up on a few things with the program, their need for a receiver that can make big plays and win the 50/50 balls. We also talked things that I’m looking forward to this spring and coming into my senior year. We practice tomorrow, so he didn’t catch me in pads today.”

Smith noted Coach Shephard spent two hours visiting to discuss how UA will utilize him in the Tide’s offensive system and continuing to develop a relationship which started earlier this year. Smith knows what the offense is capable of doing, and it’s a big reason for his high interest in Alabama.
“Their offense and how they have utilized big skilled receivers successfully is a big deal,” he said when asked what stands out with the Crimson Tide. “Seeing the recent success they had with (Rome) Odunze and (Ja’Lynn) Polk and how things coming together sticks out.”
The 6-foot-3.5, 200-pound athlete had 53 receptions for 843 yards and 11 touchdowns during the 2023 season. He was initially offered by Alabama at Junior Day on February 3. He also returned to Tuscaloosa on March 8.
“It went great,” Smith told BOL after the spring practice visit. “It’s surreal just seeing guys from Alabama go at it and compete. It was amazing. Just having the ability to even be there and experience practice, the intensity, and all the competitiveness. It was just great.”
Four official visits dates are scheduled for the Peach State athlete with UGA (5/31), Auburn (6/7), Alabama (6/14) and Tennessee (6/21). He does not claim an overall leader despite the On3 Sports RPM indicating the home state school has a significant lead heading into summer visits.
