Top-100 RB Chauncey Bowens, Florida Gators set official visit date

Last week, Gators running back commit Chauncey Bowens went to Twitter to announce his official visit with the Georgia Bulldogs. That trip is scheduled for June 9-11.

When speaking with Gators Online on Saturday, the West Palm Beach (Fla.) The Benjamin School standout said he locked in an official visit to Florida as well.

That return trip to the Swamp is locked in for June 16-18. Over a dozen additional prospects will be on campus that weekend as well. Those include linebacker Aaron Chiles, defensive lineman Nasir Johnson, offensive tackle Fletcher Westphal, tight end Amir Jackson and cornerback Wardell Mack.

When recently speaking with GO’s Keith Niebuhr, Bowens reaffirmed that his commitment to Florida sits at 100 percent. The Gators were one of the first major programs to offer last year, and because of that, Bowens’ relationships in Gainesville are very strong. That is especially true when referring to running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

“Me and Coach Juluke are really close,” Bowens told Niebuhr. “He came down here I want to say a week ago and he spent the day here. He’s just improving my bond with him. We go over stuff occasionally that he thinks of. Even with track. I sent him a video of me getting out of my blocks and he told me straight up, ‘Keep your head down. Drive. Make sure you have low heel recovery.’ Stuff like that.”

Bowens is on the rise nationally and recently landed in the top 100 of the On300 rankings. He is currently labeled the No. 10-ranked running back and No. 92-ranked prospect regardless of position.

As of today, Georgia is definitely the Gators’ top competition; however, schools like Ohio State, Alabama and Miami are lurking as well. His official visits to Gainesville and Athens will be extremely important and could determine the outcome of his recruitment.

GO Scouting Report on Chauncey Bowens

Bowens is a thicker ball carrier but shows an impressive burst and acceleration once locating a lane to the open field. It does not take him long to reach full speed once getting north and south, and that was evident all throughout his junior campaign.

You also have to take notice of Bowens’ football IQ. He does a great job of seeing what’s in front of him and then wastes little time making his move. He is also light on his feet and does a good job of hestitating and then bursting through the line of scrimmage. There is some bounce to his game as well. This is a ball carrier who impresses with the ability to navigate around a front seven.

Although he is shifty and moves well laterally, Bowens does not shy away front contact. He does a good job of utilizing his strong frame and lowing his shoulder once getting downhill. He has a strong lower body and does a nice job of pumping his legs through the whistle.

All in all, this is a big-bodied back who is shifty behind the line of scrimmage and shows impressive vision. Once finding a crease, Bowens gets north and south and shows fluidity and acceleration. This is a smooth ball carrier who utilizes his frame but can also stretch the field in a hurry.
