Top-100 LB Tarvos Alford talks impact of recent Miami Hurricanes visit for Texas A&M game: “They want me badly”

Vero Beach (Fla.) High linebacker Tarvos Alford has been one of the Miami Hurricanes top targets in the 2025 class, and this past weekend the four-star defender was one of many elite prospects who attended Miami’s matchup against Texas A&M.

The No. 94 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, loved what he saw from the Hurricanes in their 48-33 win, and Miami may be trending in the right direction with Alford after its big performance.

“Their hard-nosed defense stood out to me the most,” Alford told CaneSport. “They were all running to the ball, making big tackles and big plays when they needed to. The pick at the end of the game was big, too. Although No. 5 (Kam Kinchens) went down, they stayed in the game and continued to dominate.”

While the Hurricanes impressed Alford on the field, the No. 9 linebacker in the 2025 cycle was equally impressed with the atmosphere inside Hard Rock Stadium.

“It was definitely great,” Alford said. “When they made a play, the crowd let you know they made a play. “

Alford talks his connection with Derek Nicholson

Following Saturday’s matchup, the 6-foot-2, 204-pounder had the chance to chat with Hurricanes linebacker coach Derek Nicholson. Throughout his recruitment, Nicholson and a handful of Miami staff members have been in constant communication with Alford, who is a native of Miami.

“It was good talking to Coach Nicholson,” Alford said. “He let me know I was a priority, and they need me and want me here. They just want to make the crib great again.”

Hearing that message from Nicholson piqued Alford’s interest in the program even moreso than before.

“They’re definitely a top contender,” Alford said. “Hearing him say that made me feel real good about myself and made me feel like a place really wants me. And they want me badly. I feel like I can come here and play and make a big impact on the team.”

Alford hopes to see Miami continue to improve throughout the season on the field and hopes to return sometime this fall for another game-day visit.

“I just want to see Miami go 1-0 each week like coach Nicholson said,” Alford explained. “Keep doing what they’re doing.”

CaneSport’s take

Nicholson has done a great job of recruiting Alford, and now that Miami is showing a great product on the field, it looks as if the top-100 linebackers’ interest in the program has grown. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this recruitment plays out.
