Top 100 Florida Edge Intends to be back at USC this Summer
Tampa (Fla.) Wharton four-star EDGE Booker Pickett cut down his list to nine schools last month. Now he’s in the process of taking more trips to whittle it down even further.
USC, Georgia, Ohio St. Florida St., Miami, Penn St., Louisville, Tennessee and South Carolina were the nine schools that made the cut
After visiting Texas and Texas A&M earlier this month, Pickett headed west this weekend and visited USC and UCLA. He and an impressive group of California Power Athletes listed to two West Coast schools.
Impact of USC visit
“I thought USC was going to be really busy and loud, but it turned out to be pretty chill,” said Pickett. “It was way better than I expected. I’m definitely going to come back to USC. Probably this summer for an unofficial visit and spend some time there with my family.”
Vibe at USC
“They’re real, they’re very real,” Booker told WeAreSC. “They care about you like family, they’re care about how you act and who you are as a man….that really stood out to me. It wasn’t all fluff talk and it felt very heart to heart.”
The USC defense
“I know they’re defense struggles last year, but I know if I go there I’ll dominate and get sacks,” said Pickett. “Coach (Roy) Manning is recruiting me at USC and I know he’s really big on family. He’s chill, he’s a great coach and he can develop me. One of their guys last season led there nation in sacks last season.”
In hot pursuit
As you can imagine with a prospect ranked among the Top 100, Pickett has several schools coming at him hard.
“Ohio St., Georgia, Louisville, Miami and now USC,” he said.
Possible official visits
“I know I’m probably going to take an official to USC,” Pickett said. “Also Ohio St. Those are the only ones I know for sure. The’ll probably happen during the season.”
On3 Industry Rankings
The No. 87 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking included the USC in his list of top schools, but UCLA, Texas and Texas A&M didn’t make the cut. Pickett says those three schools are are still very involved in his recruitment.
“It was pretty tough,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons of cutting his list down. “I have built some strong relationships and gotten close to coaches and players at some schools. It came down to what is best for me.
“My top schools stand out because of the relationships I have built and how I feel about the school. These are schools I can see myself fitting into the defense, the culture and just being around that program in the future.”
