Top-100 DL Nigel Smith locks in his next visit of the summer

Top-100 DL Nigel Smith locks in his next visit of the summer

Nigel Smith spent the majority of his summer getting a closer look at his top contenders, including official visits to Big Ten country to see Penn State and Ohio State, as well as stops at Oklahoma and Texas A&M to round out June.

Now, the On3 Industry Ranking‘s No. 15-rated defensive lineman in the Class of 2024 has next weekend’s plans set in place.

Smith, whose final visit of June was to College Station for his June 23-25 official visit, is expected to get back to Texas A&M for the team’s barbecue next weekend (July 29).

The Sooners have been trending on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for the On300 DL from the Dallas Metroplex for some time.

Smith has visited Norman and College Station the most of any two campuses, and the Aggies have been continuing to surge since an April junior day visit and the continued press from multiple members of the defensive coaching staff.

“I’ve been there just as many times as I’ve been to Oklahoma,” Smith told On3 earlier this spring.

“I fit into the A&M scheme better than most schools,” he explained. “With the strongside end position, I love how they play it and how I fit into that defense. They have a great defense with Coach (D.J.) Durkin … I’ve watched them practice and scrimmage, and I love how he coaches. He wants his guys to play with energy, he gets on you and gets you to do it right, and the school itself is amazing with the Aggie Network.”

“They’re putting something together really well and they’ve made it clear that I’m a need for that end position,” Smith added. “They made it clear I could do very well at their school.”

Smith set for a September commitment

After taking four official visits in June, Smith will return to College Station at the end of July and has one more official visit on the calendar before locking in his college decision.

Smith is set to officially visit Texas on September 1-3 when the Longhorns host Rice for their home opener. After a return to Austin, the four-star DL is set to reveal his college decision on Friday, September 8 when Melissa (Texas) High School hosts its first home game at newly constructed Coach Kenny Deel Football Stadium.

While the Sooners lead on the RPM, the Aggies are in a position to make a strong move with another scheduled visit before his September decision.

He checks in as the No. 98 overall recruit in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies
